Baby Movement Patterns

Hi All

I was just wondering when you're meant to start monitoring baby's movements and patterns? I keep reading how if it changes then speak to a Midwife and it's starting to panic me because I can't say I've noticed any real pattern. Some days I feel the odd 'swimming' movement but nothing much and feel really well in myself as I'm not even pregnant, then other days I'm so tired, feel like I'm carrying a little rucksack on my front and the baby is having a party in there! Is is normal to have completely different days like this? I'm 26+4.

Thank you Smile

Hey I'm 26 weeks today with my little lady and I've only just started to feel her due to anterior placenta but I don't have a pattern either and don't feel preg apart from my bump getting bigger lol. All I feel is the odd thud from time to time... x Smile

I can only speak from my experience, but I was the same about 26 weeks. I was baffled by the idea that I should recognise a pattern, all the movement seemed really random! It took until about 30/32 weeks before I noticed that the baby was active first thing when I woke up, a little bit on the tube to work, a bit around lunch time, and busy in the evening when I was relaxing. Also, you tend to notice the movements less when you're busy yourself.

I think they say from about 28 weeks, but if you don't have a pattern, then that IS your baby's pattern, I guess! I worried myself silly last week because I didn't feel anything at all for a few days, but I'm feeling it again now, so I'm going to try to chill out in future. I think we all worry too much - it's only natural!

I've noticed baby tends to be active at particular times such as on the bus home and then on and off all evening and again early in the morning. But not always! Sometimes baby is active in the day (especially if I'm reading a story at nursery) and sometimes I don't get much movement at other times.

I think we can worry if baby isn't moving at all (or very little) in a day but otherwise I wouldn't stress too much.

with my dd I also found she had busy days and quiet days. usually after a busy day she would have a quiet day to recover from her party in my tummy!

Mine seems to be getting active 20-30 min before I realize I am hungry :D
She sems to cuddle in, feels like she is tickling me, when I turn to my left to go to sleep and when I drink cold juice.

Today someone seems to be as lazy as me though just the odd turning around and going back to sleep.

When I start to worry she is too quiet I have cold juice or ice cream but as Ligi says there are days when she moves non stop and others when she is just being rather lazy.

Having busy and quiet days is normal. I think at the stage you are at that feelibg movement everyday is important. i wouldnt worry about a pattern just yet.

Thanks everyone, glad to hear the movements can be quite random at this stage :-)
