Best places to buy baby clothes?

I'm 18 weeks and starting to plan out what I want to buy and from where (in the hope that some of it goes into the sales in January) and was wondering if anyone has any advice on the best places to look for baby clothes?

Are there any particular shops (high street/supermarkets) that have clothes that last and wash better than others - or equally any to avoid? And any tips on where sells the best muslin squares (do these even differ by shop?!)?

I don't want to spend over the odds but also don't want to buy things that don't last very well as I'd like to be able to use things for any future DC or pass on to friends for future use, and just have no clue how much things like this vary from shop to shop.

Sainsburys, H&M, and Boots have lovely unisex stuff. Dont know how well it washes though.

Ebay and NCT Nearly New sales! They're in them such a short space of time as they grow so fast and people usually buy/are given loads so each outfit is worn little more than once and you can buy loads that are really good quality and in great condition for a few quid cheapskate!

The best muslins I have are from Primark, I have mixed experiences with the clothes from there though. A three pack of sleep suits washed up lovely, but another one from there went misshapen after one wash.

Matalan does some lovely bits for girls that are feminine without being pink and fluffy.

Love the clothes from JoJo.

H&m
Sainsbury
Next.
Tesco - no, sizing all wrong!

I shop most places.
Mothercare are good for quality outfits, vests and baby gros.
Next are also good and can be good value. Clothes always wash well.
Asda do really cheap clothes, big fitting and wash well but stuff after time goes bobbly.
Tesco - awful. Quality pot and don't wash well. Clothes misshapen.
Matalan - okay but clothes often mis-sized compared to each other.
M&S - clothes all lovely quality but found their sizing was massively smaller than other brands. My DS grew out of 9-12 months at 9 months and he was just above the 50th percentile for height and weight!
John Lewis -pricey but again good quality.

If you are after clothes to resell, go for quality. You may slightly more but hopefully you can reap the rewards when reselling.

Yes, I hate tesco for staples like vests and babygros. They fade, stretch, are thin, just poor really.

LOVE LOVE LOVE Next- really pleased with their stuff and so pretty. I have to remind myself that babies GROW and I only need x many of whatever. The quality is great and feels nice and snug and warm. Just went and got five long sleeved white pepper vests today actually. Tenner, two quid each. Bargain.

FastWindow · 21/11/2014 22:52

Popper, obviously. Pepper vests sound awfully itchy.

Ooh yes I forgot about Boots. Nice unisex stuff and it washes well. They often have deals on too. I read on here once that their stuff is made for them by mothercare, no idea if this is true but I've found it to be a similar quality.

I had a baby a month ago and bought 2 packs of long baby grows, 2 x regular baby grows & 1 x vests all from John Lewis in White.
We also bought an outdoor snow type suit after he was born (from mothercare up to 10lbs).

They really don't need much to begin with.

The newborn sizing has worked well for my baby and at a month in age and weighing 4.5kg he is not ready to move into his 0-3mths JL baby grows.

I hadn't bought vests, but hospital double dressed him in a vest & long baby grow so rushed out and ordered some.

January will be cold so you may need more layers (like a cardigan) and should be able to pick things up in the sale.

Enjoy the remainder of your pregnancy and good luck

X

Next and John lewis were the best for us. the worst were mamas and papas-really expensive and looked really washed out the first time they went through the wash. :(

Topsyloulou · 22/11/2014 12:44

Sainsburys, John Lewis and mothercare are my recommendations. They wash & wear really well. I've been lent a lot of clothes & some from these shops are 6 years old & still look great.

I wouldn't go for tesco, sizes are small & quality isn't great. Next things are nice but can be expensive for what they are, I've found them to be more expensive than John Lewis for babygros.

To me the most important thing is quality as you will be washing them a lot. We've had days where ds has been through 6 baby gros. You will be amazed how often your washing machine is on!

Oldschool41 · 16/09/2017 09:59

I've bought a lot of girl baby clothes from
Next
Mothercare
Tesco and primark... I have enough to clothe 10 babies I think ha ha 😀

owltrousers · 16/09/2017 11:34

H&M is my absolute favourite, its not too expensive and its really cute stuff.

suesmith1989 · 20/10/2017 14:18

have a three year old and i'm also 16 weeks pregnant with number 2. My advice is for the first few months, because they grow out of it so quickly and because you need to wash more often (smell of dry spit up milk isn't great) I would recommend some online shops. Good quality non branded stuff like littlesprog.co.uk is great!

BoredOnMatLeave · 20/10/2017 14:22

Jojo Maman Bebe do lovely sleepsuits, they are a bit £££ but worth it to me. They usually have a sale after xmas and the smaller sizes are usually in stock in the sale.

Less ££ I like Matalan, Next and Sainsburys
