What do I need to expect at first midwife appt?

I have my first appointment on 10th December. What do they actually do?

Basically, it's a medical appointment. They ask about previous health / gynae health, family health issues. They will weigh you. They twirl a little wheel and give you a possible due date based on your lmp. You can ask them to explain when your next appointments will be etc. I think it takes about 20-30 mins.

they'll ask about the family medical history of your baby's dad. Its ok if you don't know the answers though.

I've filled out a 5 A4 page form already! I can imagine there is a lot more form filling to come!

It varies slightly from area to area but it's basically a form filling exercise. The midwife will ask lots of questions about your overall health as the previous posters have said, it's possible that the questions might vary from area to area a bit as well as a friend of mine was asked about living arrangements (eg. whether they were at risk of eviction etc) which I didn't have, and my area offers a Carbon Monoxide breath test to all expectant mothers which she didn't have.
Midwife took wee sample and blood pressure, and I have to go back today to have blood taken. Some places do that all in one appointment.
You'll probably be given a folder of info and some vouchers/fliers which you can keep your notes in (the form that the midwife fills out while you're there) because you'll need to take it to every appointment you have!
