Pregnancy

No orgasms until May due to cramps - SERIOUSLY?!?!

I'm 16 weeks pregnant. I've noticed that since pregnant, when I have an orgasm I get cramps for a while afterwards like period pain. Has been annoying but not as annoying as the orgasms are nice, so never mind.

This morning I actually called the maternity unit because three hours after orgasm I was still doubled over in pain with really bad cramps! They were sympathetic but not worried, told me I could take paracetamol, not to use a hot water bottle on the bump near where it hurt but to have a hot bath, which I did. There's nothing abnormal about the pregnancy so far and nothing to suggest that this is anything to worry about really...

...but bloody hell, does this mean I can't cum til May now? Tell me there's something else that will help, pleeeeeease!

Hi I'm not nor ever have been pregnant but god I've had what you describe!!!!the only solution for me was keeping down heaviest possible painkillers then hot water bottle. The pain was so bad I had sweats, vomiting and the shits. Hasn't happened for ages though....and now I am wondering if it was gut rather than uterine pain. Sorry not remotely helpful in your current situ- but loads of sympathy!

Bloody hell that sounds horrible. Hope it's not a regular thing for you, no sex is good enough to be worth that!

Apparently it's totally normal for orgasm to cause cramps in pregnancy, but I didn't realise my sex life was suddenly going to be over until after the birth, when I doubt I'll be keen for a while anyway and everything will presumably have changed down there quite a bit too. Really wanted to enjoy my own body pre-birth for a while yet before all my favourite bits get mangled.

What's particularly unfair is that pregnancy has so far been making me really horny! Angry

I've had this. Very intense BH after orgasm, lasted about 45 minutes. I almost phoned in, before it thankfully stopped! It's only happened to me that badly once, though. If it's happening to you every single time, I'd probably ask the midwife or doctor whether it might be sensible to stop. The ordinary tightenings shouldn't be a problem, though.

I had this; much more significantly with DC1.
Was told it was harmless.

It won't necessarily always be this painful, I'd soldier on regardless if I were you. As you said, it's not as painful as it is nice.

I've had BH after orgasms and while mildly off-putting they were never painful. I thought the definition of BH is that they are painless contractions. Is it worth getting a second medical opinion before having more sex? To be honest I would be worried about doing anything that caused me pain during pregnancy. I don't mean to freak you out, I just find the advice you were given very odd.

What's BH? Oh Braxton hicks, just worked it out sorry - I don't think it's those, I'm only 16 weeks. Just feels like general period pain i.e. cramps in my uterus, only worse.

If it is now that bad every time then it really isn't worth it, the orgasms have been nicer than the pains until today but today was much nastier and went on for hours - I wish I ever had sex as good as that was bad!

I stupidly hadn't even thought of trying again to see if it's going to be this bad every time, I'll have another try sometime when I can afford to be in pain again for a while. If I miss my signing on appointment at the jobcentre tomorrow they'll want to know why and I do not want to have to tell them!

BH happen through out pregnancy, it's never too early for them, but different people feel them at different times (or not at all). With my second pregnancy I could feel them from week 7 but they have always been painless (more of an uncomfortable tightening that could take my breath away towards the end of the pregnancy but not painful as such).

I had this but it wore off after 20 weeks so hang in there for a bit. You may not be doomed for the whole time!

I'm confused, has someone advised you not to orgasm again or is that your conclusion?

I'm not pregnant anymore as sadly miscarried twice. But when I was pregnant, I had this exact problem!!

We couldn't have sex as due to first MC told no nookie until 14 weeks so we did a bit of manual....

Oh my god, the cramps after orgasm were horrendous!!! So painful and made me not want to do it again!

So completely sympathise

SophieBarringtonWard No I haven't been told not to orgasm, it's just that this time it hurt so much afterwards that it just wasn't worth it. It's something I do for fun, and if it's significantly more painful than it is fun then I won't bother. Would miss it a lot though.

Brummiegirl15 sorry for your losses. My DP lives a long way away so I'm usually on my own, I don't know if sex without orgasm will also cause the cramps. I hope not, I bet it'd put him off even if I wanted to still do it.

I will try again another time and see if things get better or if at least it's not this bad every time. I guess if it is then at least I could use it to reliably generate a good amount of pain to practice my breathing etc for the birth!

BH can start early, im 14wk and already have them. There supposed to be painless but plenty of my BH in previous pregnancys where far from that and after intercourse they would be coupled with period cramps. It causes no harm but can be extremely uncomfortable so if u find it happens again you can only really try using paracatamol, bath or a hot water bottle. X

Right, testing this out again before DP comes to visit next week. The orgasm has gone very well Grin. I can have paracetamol, bath, and curl up with the cat all night if I need to, but hoping last time was a one-off and I'll be fine this time. Thinking uterus-relaxing thoughts...

Nothing for 3 hours, then a tiny bit of cramp for a second when I bent over, then nothing for another 2 hours. Clearly not going to happen every time then, HOORAY!!!

I might have another one later...
