What clothes are everyone buying for newborn and sizes?

What does everyone buy for small babies and in what sizes?

I'm mainly looking at NEXT for baby grows and vests and thinking 1 month and 3 month sizes will suffice for the first few months. Is it worth me buying first size as well?? I don't want to spend what is quite a lot of money on something if it's going to hardly get any use!

Do people bother with little outfits for small babies?

I'd buy from a few shops as from my experience some shops come up wider or longer. Dd1 George from asda baby grows/vests fitted her like a glove where mothercare seemed to wide and short. Dd2 fitted in tescos babygrows. Both never fitted in newborn things from mothercare as they were both long but had plenty of wear from newborn items from other places.

ourbaby I couldn't wash the first lot of babygros for DD as DH had to run out to the 24hr Asda and bring them straight in Grin. We were in hospital for 3 days and no harm was done. I'd double check you can return washed ones if you plan to do that, otherwise just buy some cheap supermarket ones and don't worry about it.

In fact I moved swiftly onto wet wipes too as the cotton wool and water was rubbish for cleaning her bottom! Probably the height of bad parenting Grin but you soon realise that you end up doing what fits in easiest with your life.

My first was in new born clothes for 3 months, but my second went sttaight into 0-3, so you just don't know, but better too big than too small. Little outfits totally impractical until about 6 months. IMO next very overpriced. Sainsburys do lovely baby stuff, also Morrisons.

dd was still in 0-3 at 5 months old. But she was born at 6 lb 4 and started off in tiny baby (of which I had only one babygro). That was after a prediction of a 8 lb baby at a growth scan. But she has always been petite.

I would say if you are expecting an average sized baby plan on them being in newborn/up to a month for a few weeks. They usually lose a bit of weight initially so it takes a while to get back up.

In my experience you can get 3 packs of sleepsuits or 5 packs of vests from supermarkets, M&S and M&P that come in plastic packets. You could probably wash these and then return them by repacking them carefully. Next clothes tend to have cardboard tags attached to the babygros so you can't wash and get them back to the state they were in the shop.

I found M&S average on size, M&P and next were big and supermarkets were small.

Different shops "newborn" are different sizes so get a variety.
I've got Jojo & John Lewis newborn and got next 0-1m. So big or small we have something (hopefully) that fits! Baby isn't measuring small on scans but isn't huge either but it's our first dc so we will find out in 7/8 weeks!
Good luck op!

I've got 20 sleepsuits up to 1 month, mostly next, all eBay or preloved! A few handed down 0-3 things, then nothing bigger as I'll want something to eBay for while I'm bfing!

Family history of teeny babies but didn't want to buy tiny and it be a waste, so got a couple of newborn sleepsuits from charity shops just in case, can always send DH or MIL to the shops if I end up with a 6lber what, new clothes?!

It's hard because you never know how big or small your baby will be. We had all newborn stuff. No outfits just baby grows and vests. And then he came out at 4lbs so he came home in a blanket and we had to stop at asda on the way and get some preemie tiny baby clothes for him. I think he was about 3 months when he started to fit into the newborn clothes. You could always sell the clothes on eBay after, that's what I've always done, quite a big market on eBay for baby clothes.

Next stuff is huge on DD - she is a year old today and is still in Next 3-6 month stuff! She is on the 91st centile for height and 25th for weight, so not especially tiny.

We only bought 0-3 months and mostly 3-6 months - DP is 6ft3, I'm 5ft9 and she was a week over so we were expecting a huge baby! She was 6lbs 2 and so tiny we had to borrow some premature baby clothes from the hospital until DP had chance to get to Mothercare the next morning. We've saved her tiny clothes (all in white), so if we have another titch this time, we have those as back up clothes!

Just been going through my little babygros... Both DC1 and 2 were in 'tiny baby' for a few weeks (up to 7 1/2 lbs according to the label but they lasted up to 8 1/2). (They were born at 38 and 36 weeks and newborn swamped them.) Some of my 'newborn' babygros go up to 91/2 lbs according to the label (sainsbury and John lewis I think). So - I'd get 4 smallish white ones from supermarkets as they are very cheap and 100% cotton etc. as well as a a few 'tiny baby' if you and your partner aren't very tall. You will probably be able to use the newborn size ones for about 3 weeks even if you have a 9 lb baby. (Obviously you it's not unusual to have a 9 1/2 lb plus baby but I think the average is about 8 lbs)? Confused Depends on the brand anyway! And I agree with everybody else about buying most stuff after the baby arrives once you know the size, if you even need it!
