At what age are you a young mum? Im 24 and 36 weeks gone. A friend of mine is constantly referring to me as a young mum. Not sure whether i do regard 24 as a particulary young age to start motherhood. What do you guys think?

I was 24 when I had ds1, 26 when I had ds2 and I am now 27.
I am the only one of my college friends that has children, and have always been the youngest at anti-natal groups etc and when I pick ds1 up from nursery I am still the youngest by far!
I find it quite odd, I never considered having your first child at 24 to be young

I am classed a young mum among my peers certainly, had dd at 22 (now 24), but don't feel like a youngster IFKWIM. I mean I am young, but not too young!

personally dont think 24 is young..I had DS when I was 25

JennyLee · 09/10/2006 21:46

I had ds at 23 and classed as young mom and at uni as freak of nature lol

spinamum · 09/10/2006 21:54

had DS1 at 27 and am the "baby" in our mummy group (by a mere two months!) My DH is the "baby" dad by a few yrs though. Felt "young" ish among uni /work friends as I was the first to "pop".

Now pg with ds2 and feel really old!(at 30)

I wish I'd started having babies a few years earlier, but TBH I prob wasn't ready and I might have had them with the wrong man by mistake.

your age becomes irrelevant once you have them anyway. you're then the mum of a ** year old.

not really.

however did see a woman in catalogue today who looked middle aged and thought i was on those glittery yet frumpy pages for older women kwim ?

i was in maternity section

so maybe i am no judge

I was 26 when I had my dd. In many ways was a good age, though friends only starting to have babies now ( 6 years down the line) so there were quite a few years when we had less in common...

I was 21 when I had ds (I will be 24 on sunday). I still feel like a young mum, but mostly because my friends haven't started having children yet and don't plan to for another 10 years at least (apparently)

I felt really young when I went to snotty m&t groups and the other mothers were in their late 30s/40s (being snotty having nothing to do with their age).

But I think whether I feel like a young mum or not depends on who I am with - kinda relative (IYSWIM)

I don't think 24 is young to have a child, but some do. And as everyone else has said your age has little bearing on how good a parent you are.

FInd it funny how I found I felt excluded from some groups etc on basis of my age (those these women would have excluded most people on anything they could find). Whereas my auntie (at 41 with my cousin) felt conscious of being much older than the other mums where she was.
