Does a busy bump = busy baby?

Just wondering if having an active bump results in a more active baby.

I felt my first kicks at 18 + 4 - not just flutter but proper kicks. Since then she's never stopped - she's always on the go and even at 36 weeks enjoys rolling from one side to the other which isn't particuarly nice for me!

She also has hiccups at least twice a day - always first thing in the morning!

From others experience - does this mean I should expect very lively, hyperactive baby pleasesaynopleasesaynopleasesayno

Yes it certainly was the case for me. I remember my maternity notes read 'active baby', 'very active baby' all the way through and he is the same now at nearly 2 years old. Everyone comments on how much energy he has and how busy he always is.

furtivefeline · 05/11/2014 12:49

Wasn't the case for me! My bump was constantly on the move to the extent that I searched for threads like this one and concluded that I was probably going to have a very hyperactive baby/toddler. When she came out DD wasn't the easiest baby - quite unsettled and colicky at first - but once that passed she turned out to be an easy baby, great sleeper and is now a fairly sedentary toddler who loves a lie-in, plays well by herself and will probably be happy travelling in a buggy til she goes to school!

rubyboo2 · 05/11/2014 13:01

In my experience YES ! My 1st ds didnt move loads . My 2nd ds never stopped moving and never has since he is now 9 and has more energy then we know what to do with !! Smile

rubyboo2 · 05/11/2014 13:02

Ps my 1st ds was always quiet and shy and still is .

elportodelgato · 05/11/2014 13:06

Yes for me too. DD1 was a pretty calm bump and has been a very settled self-contained child. DD2 on the other hand was a wriggling bump, was a wriggly baby and now at age 3.5 is a complete fidget who cannot sit still for a second Grin

Flexibilityisaghost · 05/11/2014 13:06

It didn't for me. DS was very active while I was pregnant, but did nothing but sleep for his first few months after birth. Once he was on the move he went back to being super active though, and has stayed like that up to now, aged 7.

KittyandTeal · 05/11/2014 13:16

Yep. I felt my dd very early and she didn't stop. I went to hospital with reduced movements once and after telling them how many kicks if felt they weren't interested, despite it being greatly reduced for her.

She has been really alert since day 1. Never slept well and now is a hyper toddler saying that they all are really.

She also had hiccups lots, I've heard it's linked to reflux, which she also had as a baby so something to keep an eye out for.

Hoggle246 · 05/11/2014 17:02

Kitkat don't worry, you'll find reserves of energy you didn't think possible. I've been awake since 1am with teething and ill ds and it's just like any other day. You get used to it Grin and quite often the busy bees are the good night sleepers (was in my case anyway, last night aside!)

guinnessgirl · 05/11/2014 18:42

it's a yes from me too. ds was a total livewire in the womb and is ludicrously energetic and noisy. Even as a baby he was one of the noisiest children I had ever encountered. Everyone else says so too!

iwantkhaleesiseyebrows · 05/11/2014 18:45

In my experience yes. Felt DD from 14 weeks and it was non-stop (also hiccuped loads). She has been a total live wire from birth. I wouldn't change her for the world but was most pissed off when a mum at gym class said 'wow it's like she's on speed or something- she never stops.' Shock I have to say at 3.5yrs she has finally calmed down (a bit).

cathpip · 05/11/2014 18:58

Dc3 was my most active bump, and he certainly has not stopped. Rolling over by 7 weeks and crawling at 6 months :), he's 7 months now and loads of fun!

Flangeshrub · 05/11/2014 19:16

God yes! 3 DC and the amount they moved in utero is representative of their 'activity' as children.

DS moved average amount and still does. DD1 started moving at 14 weeks (well I felt it) and was a loony, jumping around constantly, at times I feared for her wellbeing. She came flying out and still hasn't stopped! She crawled at 4 months, walked at 8 months, ran at 9 months and is a bundle of energy. Not naughty though.

DD2 moved a lesser amount and is more relaxed in general.

My cousin's DS hardly moved and she had a dreadful pregnancy worrying about him and being monitored. He's 18 now and is a couch potato. Has never moved much, very very laid back, unsporty often not leaving the house for days.

But of course the plural of anecdote is not data so this proves nothing Grin

Dogsmom · 05/11/2014 19:56

My dd was the opposite, she was really active when I was pregnant, would kick at the slightest noise and would be awake a lot of the night yet she's been the most laid back baby, slept from bottle to bottle when she was younger and now at 19 months sleeps 14 hours straight through and has for months plus a 2 hour midday nap, touch wood, we've never had a bad night although I do sometimes feel like I hardly see her!

Lucked · 05/11/2014 20:01

I have just remembered DS rolled at 1 day old, not because he wanted to or had the coordination but just the force of his kicking and wriggling. Ridiculous head control too. Enjoy Smile

Kalinka16 · 05/11/2014 20:54

Oh crap! I've got a much more active 2nd baby at 31 weeks now than I had with DD... Hey ho! Let's see what it turns out like. Beginning to wish I was 22 instead of 42 though...

freneticfox · 05/11/2014 23:09

This thread is scary! I'm nearly 26w with my first and he never stops moving, at night especially! I'm never going to sleep again am I...

kitkat321 · 28/12/2014 00:39

Hi ladies - just wanted to update this!

My bundle arrived at the end of November - 7 day early.

I can confirm that certainly in my case an active bump has resulted in an active baby!

She is very alert - has been since the day she was born - also desperate to sit up on her own, has been attempting and often suceeding in lifting her own head since a few days old and the arms and legs are constantly going!!

So yes, I now have a very active but beautiful baby :)

OMG! That's what I've been wondering. My boy seems to always be awake, kicking, shoving and rolling about. So it seems like I'm going to have a rather active baby boy. My 2yr old girl wasn't so active in Utero and she slept well as a baby, looks like I'm not going to be as lucky this time.
Congrats on your new baby KitKat. X

Poppyflowe · 28/12/2014 09:34

Yes! I had a footballer in there, she's now a strapping, sporty teenager. We had a season ticket to A&E when she was growing up and bumping herself or getting sporting injuries.
