To use crib stored in shed?

A friend has offered to give me an old co-sleeping crib, which she has been keeping in the shed. Also, I think it is more than 8 years old. Obviously I would get a new mattress, and the crib itself is all wooden. Do you think it would be safe to use? I'm worried about the wood having any damp or mould in it…

If in any doubt, I would not use, as it could have a bit of mould even if you can't see any signs. Although saying that I have bought things from gumtree which I don't actually know the history of!

Also if its 8 years old, you need to check it meets current safety regulations for gaps between bars etc.

I'd take it in from now and let it dry out, disinfect, sand and repaint or varnish. It should be fine. My mother used a cot made by my grandfather which was also used for all our cousins, so it would have been on the go for about 20 years in all (I have a good few cousins) so it doubtlessly spent a few years in a garage or shed. I hate being all it never did us any harm, but it doesn't appear to have, no injuries or cot deaths.

Depends on the conditions in the shed. Some sheds can be damp and have creatures in others can be secure dry stores. See what it's like and if you're happy with it (or it just needs a repaint) then take it.
