Nobody has confirmed my pregnancy? Is this normal?

Hi, I'm new here! Smile
Just wondering if it's normal that as of yet nobody (other than myself) has actually performed a pregnancy test - not the GP, not the midwife. The only confirmation I will have will be this Friday at my first scan. I think it works out that I'm 9w5d today and will be 10w2d at my first scan. I found it a bit odd that no one has done a urine test and they haven't done a hCG blood test. Can anyone shed any light on this? I'm worried that I'm not really pregnant, and it's really making me anxious. Although this is pretty unfounded as 10 home pregnancy tests can't all be wrong??? Thanks for your help! Thanks

It's extremely rare to get a false positive. They usually take your word for it..I've never had either of mine confirmed. The test they would do is no more accurate than a him pregnancy test.

Pretty standard, I'm afraid, unless you have history of miscarriage etc! I went to the doctor, told him I'd had a positive test ( or 4), told him my LMP, he estimated due date and said I'd get a letter in the post for my booking apt and 12 week scan!

Neither of my pregnancies were confirmed by anyone other than me. The doctor said a clearblue test was as accurate as anything they could do.

Don't worry, its totally normal :) I went through exactly the same ! No one confirmed my pregnancy so I kept doing test to put my mind at ease, lol. It's very odd, I was bracing myself to be told at the scan that I had imagined my pregnancy. Complete lunacy of course. I'm 24 wks now and baby kicking away. Good luck for your scan X

Hi, standard practice these days i believe. My boys are 5 & 6 and i was not tested again. I questioned it but was told that home pregnancy tests are so accurate that it is not usually considered necessary for gp or midwife to test again. Congratulations on your pregnancy Smile

Thank you for your quick replies, I am glad this is normal :) I'm pretty confident that I'm pregnant as I've loads symptoms, morning sickness etc, but I still have a little panic in the back of my mind!

thank you Thanks

Just confirming that the GP tests are pretty cheap and cheerful so no need for a repeat if your home one says upduffed.

I remember my gran marvelling at how we can tell so early at home these days. For her it was vomiting whenever she smelled the hops near the Guinness Brewery in Dublin and then waiting for a bump to appear at some stage! (If there's a GreatGransnet I may have just outed myself to her).... Sorry, total tangent!

Congrats on your BFP!

No one confirmed anything for me. Was a relief to see the baby on the scan -the sonographer said "yes it's real, you are pregnant" or something along those lines!
My parents couldn't quite accept I was pregnant until it had been "confirmed" by a doctor.

m33r · 27/10/2014 19:32

Same here! Nothing at all. When I went to gp it was but awkward:
Me: I have had a positive pregnancy test
Him: well done. I will refer you to midwife.
Long pause / tumble weed
Me: what should I do now
Him: don't smoke. Bye then.

Congrats! Grin

I am a newbie to the group, having only done a test (I mean 4) on Saturday and discovering i am 5 weeks pregnant with my First Child. I was really surprised when I rang Doctors that offered an appointment in 2 weeks to see midwife. So I am really glad to see this thread, as I was really puzzled thinking I would need to see a doctor first to confirm it all.

TheHermitCrab · 28/10/2014 09:29

I took about 5 pregnancy tests, and told the doctors I had, but still when I went to see the nurse she took another and said congrats, she tried to date me with the calendar (she was a week out) then gave me a few leaflets and whatnot and then referred me to a midwife. Looks like I got a lot more than most people, so I wouldn't worry!

Yes it is normal. The tests are very sensitive. It's not the case that you are not "officially" pg unless a Dr confirms it! You probably won't see a Dr your whole pregnancy unless there are complicating factors

Theorientcalf · 28/10/2014 10:22

Totally normal. The tests are just the same, and there's no reason to take bloods unless you're miscarrying.
