Hi all
Am needing a bit of reassurance... Am 16 weeks today with DCDA twins and for last week or so have had long BH contraction in night after going for a wee. Don't think it is UTI as no other symptoms. Any other mums to be out there had this at this stage... Know it's normal to have BH earlier with twins but this seems v early?

I believe that BH happen from very early on but you don't necessarily feel them. I felt my BH from week 7 with DC2 because me cervix was very low (not a problem for me, I just have a slightly odd physiology). Then I stopped feeling them in the second trimester and then felt them again. At first I could only feel them after having an orgasm, which was a bit disconcerting, but for the last months I could feel them all the time.

If you are worried though just give your MW a call tomorrow just to make sure.

Thanks. Reassuring to know it is possible this early on. Also have had contractions after sex. Never regular or painful as such so prob normal I think. Will check with mw though. Smile

I felt them quite strongly from 16 weeks with DC2 (singleton pregnancy, born at 39 weeks) - I remember phoning the midwife as I was so worried, but she said that although it was early, it was still within the realms of normal. Later on they got so intense that I did go to the labour ward t be checked a couple of times. Oddly I haven't felt a single BH contraction yet this pregnancy, and I'm coming up for 33 weeks with DC3. I guess they are all different.

I had Braxton Hicks from week 18 with DS, so it's not necessarily that early....

With both of my pregnancies I had BH from 8 wks so it's not uncommon.
Have you spoken with your midwife about them? I was very concerned when I was having DD1 as they seemed constant when I was 18 wks (awful day of the twin towers too) so I was in a bit of a state. She saw me, reassured me and sent me for a scan to put my mind at ease.

With DD2 I knew what to expect when they started so early.

So relieved to see this thread. Am 23wks but been experiencing BH for a while now. My sister explained to me yday what they were. It's quite daunting to have them so early but apparently, very normal.

Thanks ladies, had mw appt today and urine fine, she said it is possible for contractions at this early stage esp as uterus growing a lot between 15-20 weeks. Said to drink plenty of fluids and rest if feel tired as general precautions but sounds like it's nothing to worry about. Grin
