Long latent phase - I'm so tired!

Now been contracting every 5-15 minutes for 30 hours. Not sure what I think the point of this thread is really, I'm just moaning. The contractions are manageable but no way sleep through able.

Anyone else had this? Tell me it logically must progress at some point?! Should I call the midwives at some point?

It's my first (very obviously I'm sure!)

I had this for three days at home with my first. I spent the nights trying to sleep, but contractions were too much to sleep through. I spent the days walking, doing stairs and bouncing on a gym ball. By the time I went to hospital I was only 2 cm but utterly exhausted. I was kept in due to high BP (I think I would have sobbed if they made me go home) but it was still another 30 odd hours before ds arrived. My advice would be to rest as much as possible whenever you can. Thanks

Hope you're progressing OP! It's exhausting, I know. If/when it all gets too much don't be afraid to go into hospital and say you really need some help and pain relief. Hang on in there, you will get to meet your baby soon, I promise!

Well still here :(

Still about 10 mins apart but increasing in intensity. I'm going to lie down tonight and try for some sleep between them at least.

It's very tiring, the latent phase. Mine lasted for 6 days. I was so thankful for my TENS machine, it allowed me to sleep.

The midwife said that DD probably had her head tucked to one side so wasn't putting enough pressure on my cervix. So stay active if you can, move your legs and hips etc.

Just remember that your baby will be here soon! Each contraction is one that you don't have to experience again.

Morning spendide - how was yr night? X

splendide · 27/10/2014 08:42

Hello! I had my baby last night! I'm crazy tired but all worth it in the end. As Chunderella said it went really fast at the end. I was 5 cm at about 5 o'clock and the midwives left me and said they'd be back at 8 pm to do another check (home birth). At about half six I had an urge to push! Luckily they were only round the corner.

I had over 90 hours of this and it was utterly exhausting so you have my sympathies. Phoned the midwives a couple of times and they just said don't come in until the contractions are 3 in 10, and regular. Trouble was, sometimes they would come two minutes apart, sometimes 9. They were painful too as DD was back to back, and I had had no sleep at all. It was awful, and there was no way I could have gone for even a short walk. I remember spending a lot of the time leaning against the towel rail or sitting on my birth ball, and using the TENS machine to help with the pain. I could barely eat and in the end I just went in, determined not to come out without my baby! Turned out I had high blood pressure and they broke my waters and put me on a drip to 'augment' labour. It actually resulted in a c-section for me as they thought DD was getting compressed by the cord. I don't know if that was the reason for the slow labour - no-one said so, so probably just a coincidence - but the back to back positioning certainly had a role to play. Ugh, it was horrible, and something no-one tells you about in the antenatal classes! Good luck!

Oops, didn't see there were two pages - huge congratulations OP! Enjoy the cuddles with your newborn Smile

splendide · 27/10/2014 14:38

Aw thanks! Its so snuggly!

I don't think my contractions ever really hit a steady 3 in ten either. Stayed really erratic then suddenly were all on top of each other and then there he was!

Congratulations Thanks

Bolshybookworm · 27/10/2014 14:59

Congratulations Splendide, you must be over the moon (if a little tired)!
My long latent labour sped up and the slowed down again, so I ended up on the syntocin drip (birth was fine though)- wasn't going to tell you that whilst you were in the middle of labour though Wink

So pleased it went well for you!

mumxof3x · 27/10/2014 15:40
