Coccyx pain - another back to back labour?

I had a back to back labour with my first baby - absolutely awful :( I had sciatica with that pregnancy and have it again and have pains in my coccyx. It's making me think I'll have another back to back labour but I don't know how rational that is. I'm 21 weeks - is a painful coccyx indicative of the baby already facing the wrong way?

Your baby will still be changing position all the time at the moment so I wouldn't worry that the pain indicates you will have another back to back baby at this stage. My first was back to back as well. Have been told scrubbing the kitchen floor prevents it. Am going to have a very shiny floor by the time this one comes!

I'm watching this with interest, am 22w and had back to back the first time too. Although I don't know any different I will do anything to relieve that awful awful pain again!

Good luck Zebra, I would possibly suggest seeing a physio or at least your gp to ask if there is anything that can make the next few weeks a bit more comfortable.

Zebra I am also 21 weeks and have had horrible Coccyx pain. I had no idea it was a pregnancy symptom until I looked it up in this massive pregnancy book someone bought for me. The book states that it is because of the hormone relaxin messing with your bones! I bought a special cushion from amazon for a bout £10 and it has worked wonders! I use it at work and the pain has pretty much gone. I do have a job that is at a desk all day though. Would highly recommend!

I've had it for much of the way through too, & also wondered if this meant baby was back to back, but just to reassure you I'm 34 weeks now & had a scan yesterday & was told baby is definitely the right way round!

Might be worth chatting with your midwife if pain is severe as you may need a referral for physio.

Not sure that this answers your questions but I asked my midwife about back to back and she said I was no more likely to have a back to back birth again and even if I did it would be much easier than the 1st birth that was agony. (not sure if it is true but I hope so.)

Ive also got a dodgy coccyx (broken in first labor) and midwives I've spoken to recently have all recommended craneal osteopaths to have a look.... Haven't been yet tho so can't report bavk
What I do know is that time on all fours with bum in air is meant to prevent back to back . (Also sitting leaning forward rather than slouching)

You can't 'prevent' a back to back labour, it just happens. My first was back to back, I followed all of the advice - birth ball, scrubbing the floor, correct posture etc, etc, etc. he turned around once but then flipped back round again just in time for me going into labour. Agony.

My placenta was on the front, back to back labours are far more common with this but not guaranteed either way.

Mine was the right way round throughout pregnancy but then turned back to back for labour Angry . Seemed very unfair!
