34 week extra hospital appointment for BMI?

Hi all,

I had my 31 week midwife appointment the other day, and afterwards she left me a voicemail to say she had forgotten to book me in for my 34 week hospital appointment for my raised BMI. She didn't really say what it was for other than 'a chat', and she's booked me in. Does anyone have any experience of this? If it's really just a chat about healthy eating etc then I feel it might be a waste of time as I know all that stuff! Just wondering if they will do anything else, growth scan etc?

I should have said, otherwise I'm classed as low risk, midwife led etc, this will be my first hospital appointment other than GTT...

I'm going To assume your BMI is over 30... Most trusts have a BMI pathway for all women with BMI over 30 to be seen more frequently after certain gestations... I think it's 3weekly until 34 then fortnightly. This is because you are more likely to develop pre eclampsia and so midwives would like to keep a closer eye on your blood pressure

Our BMI 'protocol' doesn't kick in till your bmi is over 35

Mine is 32, which they calculated after weighing me when I was already pregnant, which I thought was a bit mean! It's weird, I haven't had any extra appointments until this one, which is with the hospital rather than the community midwife, who I'm seeing the same day. Oh well I'll go along and see what happens!

At what stage of your pregnancy did they weigh you? I was weighed at 8 weeks and I hadn't gained anything yet.

My hospital do an extra scan at 34 weeks for raised BMI because it is harder to assess growth of the baby just on feeling your tummy.

I have a high Bmi and I had to see an consultant in my extra appointment . I didn't really get a lecture on healthy eating she just gave me info about the slightly raised risks of preeclampsia etc. then I just got booked for an extra growth scan next week as high Bmi can lead to bigger babies. It was fine and I don't mind an extra scan if I get to see my baby again! :)
