Away on Business - Bleeding - Help!

Pansy1210 · 23/10/2014 10:05

I'm currently away in Ireland on business and approx. 7.5 weeks pregnant. I've been having some spotting on and off for a few weeks but went for an early scan on Tuesday and everything was fine - measuring correctly and good HB.

However, when I got up this morning and went to the toilet (no.2 - sorry, tmi!) I noticed some bright red vaginal bleeding and of course went into a complete state of panic. I haven't had any bleeding since (approx. 3 hrs ago) but am now completely paranoid and not back in the UK until tomorrow afternoon.

Has anyone else out there experienced this? Should I be worried? I do have IBS so not sure if that is a contributing factor....

Yes, I had this throughout early pregnancy, including a really heavy bleed at 12 weeks, she is now nine! The fact you have already seen a HB is a good sign, Keeping everything crossed for you

OP, try not to worry.

I had this when I had a bit of constipation at approx 8 weeks and it scared the life out of me.

Ended up at EPU having a scan but all was well and she is now 2 years old.

If it's stopped now that is a good thing. Good luck!

Whereabouts in Ireland are you? Most of the major maternity hospitals would allow you to come in and be checked out if you've had bleeding.

There would be the likelihood of a long wait however and if you're working that might not be feasible.

Good luck, it's probably minor and it's positive that you've had your scan and know baby is doing well.

I had spotting, red bleeding, even some clots throughout both my pregancies - they are now 10 & 8 Smile. By dd I was reasonably blase about it, but it is horribly scary.
If you've already had bleeds and a scan, then it may well that this is just normal for you. Depending on your work commitments, can you take things a bit easy? My doctor said that - whilst it probably wouldn't make any difference, it would make ME feel better if I felt I was doing something about it.

That happened to me too. I rand the mw who wanted to send me for a scan but obviously being abroad, I couldn't do it.
So I organised to go have a scan in the country where I was. And found that all was well Grin.
I had the chance to be at a customer, big company who had a medical team on site do they directed me tontheveightnace, book the appointment etc.
I would try and see how you can have a scan done there (not sure what is the procedure) and contact work and tell them you need to go and be checked over.
Does your work know about the pg? Would it be ackeatd of you tell them now?

Eaghoul · 23/10/2014 11:04

Sorry when I say "would allow you" I mean without an appointment or a referral.

PotsAndCambert · 23/10/2014 11:05

Bye you need to treat it as if you have a really badly sprained ankle it the like and needed to see a doctor what would be the procedure to go and see a doctor whilst you are abroad travelling etc...

IKillPlants · 23/10/2014 11:21

Sent you a PM. Hope all ok.

Pansy1210 · 23/10/2014 11:28

Thank you all for the advice. It's really appreciated and reassuring to know that others have been in the same boat. I've actually managed to get a flight home this afternoon so should hopefully be able to see a doctor tomorrow. I usually work from home - it's just typical this has happened on one of the few days I'm travelling. Had to tell work it was a family emergency as don't want to tell them I'm PG so unecessarily early if everything is ok.

Where are you. The major maternity hospitals in Dublin are Holles Street, Coombe and Rotunda. All close to city centre and a taxi driver could take you to the nearest. All have emergency room, I am.pretty sure you would be seen.

Pansy1210 · 23/10/2014 12:59

Thanks Annie. I was actually in Shannon but am on a plane back to the UK this afternoon (sat on the plane waiting to depart!). Will definitely be visiting a&e tonight if it starts again but otherwise will visit my doctor or EPU tomorrow. Fingers crossed everything will be ok!

Everything crossed OP. The fact it has stopped is really positive, as is the fact you've seen a heartbeat.

Happened to me at exactly 8 weeks - seems to be a common point for breakthrough bleeds. He's 3 now.

Pansy1210 · 24/10/2014 12:50

So thought I'd just provide a quick update - can only get in next week to the EPU to have a scan. Had a little bit more bleeding last night and then again this morning when I went to the toilet. There wasn't much... Mainly when I wiped but am now getting a slight pain under my left hip and have got back pain (but that could be from sitting on a plane and then not getting much sleep last night). I'm trying not to worry too much as there's not much I can do until next week... But its easier said than done... Sad

Rubbish that you can't get seen until next week. :(

I had bleeding at 8 weeks too that was accompanied by aching and pains from my hips but do remember that's really common at this stage anyway. Stuff is moving about so much in there right now that aches and pains are so commonplace.

Fingers crossed for you next week. Keep us updated?
