I went 2 weeks overdue with my first and had a horrible induced birth that I am desperate to avoid this time round.

I am currently 5 days overdue. I am not going to agree to any sort of induction until 2 weeks overdue...

I know about all the pineapple, raspberry leaf tea, sex etc to get things going, but does any of that actually work?! I had a stretch and sweep yesterday and the midwife said although I'm about 1 cm my cervix is still quite high and she doesn't think I am imminent. :( However, I've been having mild cramping for the last 3 days, and some sharp stabbing pains. I don't remember feeling anything at all when pregnant with my first.

Please can someone make me feel better?! I'm feeling quite down in the dumps right now!

Well when I went in to be induced with my first I was 2-3 cm (but had felt nothing in the lead up!) and they went straight to give me the drip which was utterly horrendous and an experience I never want to repeat! I guess that's why I'm a little despondent even when told
I'm 2cm, because I keep thinking, well I was last time as well :( although this time I've had a bit of cramping, and the odd bit of show. And the sweep hurt!!

Duvet, I'll have my fingers crossed for you...

Keen that sounds grim but I am glad to know that as I fear I may be waiting until induction day and I have no experience of this. Ds arrived 5 days late after a 4.5 hour delivery with a 13 min second stage. I am a bit down that after such a straightforward time with him, that this one could be long and complicated. I am keeping everything crossed for you. Smile

Keenoonvino · 25/10/2014 18:03

Well tomorrow I'll be 10 days overdue :( seeing midwife for another sweep but I'm guessing she will book in my induction as well. Feeling very despondent this evening. Sad

I Meant to say seeing midwife tomorrow for another sweep

I was also worried about going over the 40w so I decided to drink 4 cups of raspberry leaf tea and have sex once a day from 37 weeks and within 6 days the contractions had started and our baby had arrived.
I didn't believe either of these things would actually work but thought its worth a try ..

Bolshybookworm · 25/10/2014 19:49

Oh Keeno, I've so been in your position and I know how frustrating the waiting is. I'm a fairly easy-going person but I remember crying tears of frustration that my stupid body wouldn't go into labour normally like other peoples. And being utterly sick of the heartburn, hip pain, needing the loo about 50 times

You've still got a few days to go, so fingers crossed everything will get going without any help!

Have you had a chat with your mw about what will happen if they do induce you? Might help a bit. I thinK membrane rupture is much more likely for a second birth- ask about it. Also, be adamant that you want an epidural if they go anywhere near you with the drip!

duvetfan · 25/10/2014 20:45

Hi keen. I am at the 10 day mark tomorrow too. Other than the odd period like pain, there is nothing happening. I just have to sit it out until induction. I am so bloody miserable and fed up now. I am hoping I can lift my mood when the baby does eventually turn up. Angry I hope we get our babies soon. Also getting worried about what size it will be with all its extra baking time. Sad

Keenoonvino · 26/10/2014 21:40

My midwife is so lovely and so desperate for me to avoid an induction. She hasn't even put me on the induction list and I'm seeing her again on tues at 12 days over.

The sweep this morning has given me a bit of bleeding but nothing else. She said I'm a comfortable 2 cm now.

I took a bad fall yesterday flat on my back so now have back pain on one side of my back - have had it most of the day - and sad it's not labour back pain!

I have no idea why I'm still posting, I don't really have anything to say I guess I'm feeling a bit down and just want to moan.

Duvet, sorry you're in the same position as me :( do you know what you're having? It's a surprise for us....

Bolshy, thanks. It's nice to have some sympathy!! I had a big cry last night. They went straight to the drip with my first, but midwife says they will break my waters this time, as I'm "prime for that!"

Keen. sorry you had a fall and that you are so down. I had my first contraction at 4pm and our DS 2 born at 7 pm. We didn't know what we were having so a lovely surprise. will check in tomorrow to see how you are doing. x

Keen I insisted on an epidural before the drip went in last time and it was amazing. Worth thinking about this time if you do end up being induced, as it turned it into a nice calm process without any pain at all. I was able to walk within a couple of hours after birth, and was fully mobile by late afternoon (DS born at lunchtime). My MW keeps saying how horrible induction is - it isn't with the right drugs lol!

Hope something happens for you soon naturally though - I'm just fed up of being pregnant, and sooooo bored because I'm now so uncomfortable I can't get out and about much (and it's half term so no toddler groups etc).

Bolshybookworm · 27/10/2014 15:05

Me too, bronya, it was lovely! First time around, they gave me the drip when my labour slowed down. I said I'd only have it after an epidural (friends had warned me about the drip) which I got and then didn't feel a thing and had a nice sleep whilst my contractions ramped up Smile
Second time round, they threatened the drip as my contractions were erratic. Got my epidural and then they sped up so I didn't need the drip (think the epidural allowed me to relax a bit)! Both babies came out without any problems.

The result of this is that I've never felt a babies' head crown which I am very, very happy about!

Keenoonvino · 27/10/2014 15:35

Congratulations duvet! Geez, 3 hour labour - you lucky thing.

When I was induced first time I went straight on drip and lasted 6 hours until the midwife told me I was "being a very silly girl" (I was 28) not to have an epidural and brought the doc in and said he's going home, you should have it now. So I did, and ended up with forceps delivery. But thank you both for your positive stories, that makes me feel a little better.

I woke up at 2am last night with the most immense pain and pressure down below, couldn't get off the toilet. It was painful on and off for a few hours, didn't get any sleep. Then things seemed to quieten down this morning. But for the last few hours I've been getting a wave of pain every 60-80 mins lasting about 70-80 seconds. I have no idea if this means I'm in early labour, as they are quite erratic. I am having a lie down now, but am hoping and praying this means things are starting off. But I've been like this for about 13 hours now And pains Aren't getting any closer together.

But they make me stop, lean against a wall and breathe waiting for them to be over....

Sounds like something's going on! I had some false labour pains in the run up to being induced second time around. They felt like contractions but less painful and would be quite regular, and last a few hours, then stop. I got fed up of waiting and so was induced, but think I would have progressed to full labour given a couple of days (but I was already at 40+ 13 at this point and worried about having another long latent labour).
My midwife said that they were functioning to soften up my cervix so they weren't wasted energy Smile
Fingers crossed this is your body gearing up for the big event!

duvetfan · 27/10/2014 20:03

Keen I had similar pains that never intensified for a few hours before my first proper contraction so it sounds as though things may be developing for you. I will keep my fingers crossed. My mum was induced with me and had swift delivery. I was told I wouldn't be put on a drip. can you not suggest the pessary thingy or break waters etc. keep us posted. X
