Stuffing myself silly - 18 weeks

Was wondering the best place to post this one, as I don't know if it's actually pregnancy related.

I've absolutely stuffed myself a few days in a row now, it's like I've lost my full signal, but then I get to the point where I have stop as I will gag I'm that full.

Family members keep asking about cravings, I'm just like 'nothing that can be attributed to pregnancy, just my usual greediness'. The things I want to eat are generally sweet and carby, but that's normal for me. I've been less keen on savoury and vegetables since morning sickness days.

I'm relatively healthy, was a big runner before pregnancy, and was well in the normal BMI range (haven't been weighed since). Don't wanna cause too much harm as I don't think it's baby demanding this behaviour Sad

Anyone with me?

I'm with you!!

My FIL says I'm not allowed back to his house for dinner until baby is here because I eat too much Grin

I've slowed down a bit the past few weeks, probably at about 19 weeks actually, maybe its just a 2nd tri thing? Making up for all the morning sickness in 1st tri!

I was the same till baby started taking up too much room lol I'm just over 23wks now and can't seem to fit much in. You'll slow down soon so don't worry too much.

i was starving all the time at that point in my pregnancy and didnt put on a lot of weight (have since made up for thatâ?¦) despite stuffing my face. i really dont buy the no extra calories until the 3rd tri thing

Me too, I was so hungry the first few months. It was like having two stomachs, a nauseous one and a growling greedy one! I'm 32 weeks now and my appetite did calm down by about 20 weeks. By that time though I'd got into a bit of a habit of eating all kinds of crap so I've had to discipline myself a bit. I think if your bodies telling you to eat then eat. Lots of us seem to agree we are extra hungry in the first trimester, must be a reason for it.

I have it, but a few days at a time. I put it down to growth spurts and just go with it. My body is pretty much the same size as it was, but huge bump.

If you're eating lots of white carbs, they do tend to make you hungry for more white carbs - if you can manage some protein - say some bland cheese, or tuna - it might help you feel more satisfied.

I'm week 18 as well and definitely stuffing myself!

I'm much hungrier than usual during the morning, and find I am eating much bigger lunches than I used to, plus snacks. Then I feel sick in the afternoon (not morning sickness, just overating sickness) - however it still doesn't stop me eating lots when I get home, even if I am not that hungry.

I'm still in the habit of eating an ice lolly every day, which was my main craving in the first trimester, even though I am not really craving them any more. I have also developed a thing for chai lattes but am trying to restrict myself to one a day, both because of the caffeine and the calories.

I think it is partly the hunger and partly that I haven't shaken off the habits (sweet food, snacking, lots of carbs and bland food to stave off morning sickness) I developed in the first trimester. I really think I need to discipline myself and also do a bit more exercise...but glad to hear that it seems to tail off later in pregnancy. I've put on about 10 pounds so far and a bit worried that I am going to end up putting on loads.

I was ever so extremely exhausted in the first four months and all I wanted to eat was carbs, fats and sugar. (The doc was worried about the levels of sugar in my pee and ended up testing for gestational diabetes at the end of the first trimester already, but fortunately I was fine. She did tell me to chill out on the gummy bears and fizzy drinks though!) I think it's the extra energy requirements making you crave that stuff and as much of it as possible (I, too, was ramming it down my throat long after I was full!) And whilst I didn't have morning sickness, the thought of any vegetables whatsoever just made me want to gag, like they would be too acidic in my tummy or something. Sometime around month 4-5 my cravings switched to fresh salads and crunchy veggies and a tonne of fruit. All values at the end of the 2nd trimester check-up (including gestational diabetes again) were absolutely fine. It all balances out in the end I guess!

Thanks for the replies, I'm glad I'm not the only one.

Lunch is my downfall, it just goes on and on, I keep eating. Then by dinner I'm still full and uncomfortable! I know it's mainly a loss of willpower, I can be quite disciplined and follow a good plan, linked to my exercise routine, when not pregnant, but when I became pregnant and the 'no dieting' mindset came I lost it a bit. I'll go easy on myself though, and try and make better (proteiny) choices. Big batch of houmous tomorrow!
