Will bouncing on my Birthing Ball help send me into labour?

Or is it just a sort of comfort thing?

Im due Saturday and have done the odd hour sat on my ball, but I wondered if regular use had sent anyone else into labour?

Baby is right down, have BH every evening, sometimes accompanied by regular breathtaking pains, and then everything eases off - so my body is definetly close to birth!

But my labour childcare for dd is away this weekend Grin so could do with being a few days early!

Haha!

(Is wine meant to help?)

My baby has fallen asleep (bearing her head down must have got boring or tiring) and I've just got a tight, achy belly tonight. No braxton hicks, not even a hiccup! Just a feeling of period pain all over my tummy.

So can't see anything happening for me tonight!!!

I've taken to YouTube to watch videos of women's waters breaking... Many of them are dancing! One is doing a 'pole dance' around a mop. A few are just really laughing hard.

If nothing else, watching a heavily pregnant woman dance is quite amusing!!

Wine was to help me dtd Grin

Oh I might have to Youtube some videos.

Ive been totally over-egging all my sneezes today just to try and get them giving my uterus a fright but no avail.

There's a few 'induce labour naturally' videos too. But they aren't as funny.

I'm with you on the sneezing. I've been stepping down curbs with extra force today. Oh and waking along the pavement but with one foot in the road so im constantly stepping down (does that make sense?!).

Gonna try to find a really funny film or programme tomorrow. Feel like a good belly laugh might do the trick!!

Someone on another thread said about really clearly visualising labour and birth with as much detail as you can. I think I'd lose focus but might try that.

ThinkIveBeenHacked · 21/10/2014 22:22

Oh I might try some stand up.comedy! Will have a rifle through my dvds for some proper laughs tomorrow.

I'm convinced bouncing on mine and watching One Born Every Minute helped when I had DS! But I was also 9 days overdue and had had a sweep the day before (when my cervix was pronounced 'unfavourable').

Who knows? Had transverse lie earlier on and I think the ball helped get him head down.

(good luck)

Ok.so ive had an hour of contractions, roughly 5 mins apart, painful but not breath taking yet. Hips are aching.

Want to just ride them out til the morning so I dont have to wake DH or drag my poor DM up here (mind she only lives five doors away!)

Too uncomfortable to sleep, eveb though my eyes are droopy, and I really dont want to do the bath/paracetamol thing yet as I think that will just stop everything in its tracks. Ive got "Day After Tomorrow" recorded on the Sky+ so might just stick that on in the living room and bounce on my ball for a bit.

Yaayyyyyy!!!!! This is it Hacked! How are things now?

Hope you did fall asleep in the end.

(I'm definitely getting a birthing ball now!)

ThinkIveBeenHacked · 22/10/2014 06:37

Managed to fall asleep about three, then woke at six. Have had three contractions since then, so it is painfully slow and steady.
DH is meant to be at work today (ive left him sleep rather than tell him.any of this), and its parents evening tonight (he is a TA) so I really dont want him to stay off if im only having cxns ten mins apart.....I really dont know what to do.

DD is due to go to my mothers anyways asshe always goes every tues and weds so thats fine (she will be collected at nine).

I really dont know what to do.

It's so tricky. I wish my DP didn't have the same rule regarding pat leave. Who knows how long it will take? It's so unfair to be forced into making that decision with something so unpredictable.

Can he quickly get home if the contractions ramp up?

I think I'd do the same as you and let him go to work and call him home if I needed him. But this is my first so it's bound to take forever to get to the stage where I have to rush to the hospital.

What did you do in the end? (Have just realised its gone 8)

Spookgremlin · 22/10/2014 08:27

Just checked this again, are things moving any quicker think? Good luck Grin

Bolshybookworm · 22/10/2014 10:19

Good luck! Hope the ball helps with the pain!

ThinkIveBeenHacked · 22/10/2014 12:03

Well that was interesting! Contractions ramped up, into hospital for half eight - 2cms. Born at 10.22!! Bit of gas and air, my body did all the work and a bit of controlled pushing for the head crowning. What a totally different experience to DD Grin

Congratulations Thanks

Pootles2010 · 22/10/2014 12:30

Congratulations! Wow 8 cm in 2 hours - thats quick! Lovely name.

ThinkIveBeenHacked · 22/10/2014 12:38

It was scary at the time, but once I got some G&A and my MW was all "active labour" pro I felt so so at ease and just felt quite "yep, I can do this". Had a student in with me too who was superb!

OP posts:
BuckskinnedAstronaut · 22/10/2014 12:50

I went from 2cm to baby in 25 minutes with DC3 (they'd only kept me in instead of packing me straight off back home so they could do a trace and because mw said "well, it is your third and they can be unpredictable..."). I only just got my pants off in time!

Congratulations again -- lovely name. Newborns are gorgeous.

BuckskinnedAstronaut · 22/10/2014 12:52

(Sorry, that wasn't supposed to be one-upmanship, more "watch out if you have a third yourself after a quick first stage this time and hightail it in ASAP" but I missed that bit off Blush )

Bolshybookworm · 22/10/2014 13:13

Congratulations! My second wasn't quite that quick (12 hrs) but a damn sight quicker than her sister! It's great, isn't it? Enjoy your lovely newborn!

Bellyrub1980 · 22/10/2014 14:31

Brilliant!! Well done and congratulations Thanks

Right... Time to get a birthing ball!!

ThinkIveBeenHacked · 22/10/2014 15:23

Oh I didnt read it that way Buck dont worry Grin

Definetly Belly although DH maintains it was errr.....his doing Wink last night.

Tbf Im inclined to think the MWs would agree with him - they kept saying what puts them in gets them out.
