Price of NCT Classes

Can anyone give me an idea of how much their NCT classes are? I was quoted £165 for 4 refresher classes and a meet up after the birth. This includes £40 membership fee. Seems expensive to me but I have not done them for a few years. I am in the South east.

Mine is two Saturdays and one evening session plus a meet up and costs, I think, about £180 which i set up to pay in instalments. I agree it's costly!

MildredH · 19/10/2014 21:09

Sounds roughly what ours was but the membership element is not obligatory and you can remove it which lowers the cost.

twiglet2 · 19/10/2014 21:11

You don't have to pay the membership fee. Mine were £170 plus it automatically added the £40 membership fee, but I opted out of this. They are expensive, but we did find it useful.

VikingLady · 19/10/2014 21:11

That's about the same as round here, though there is a very large discount for being on certain benefits.

Alicarmen · 19/10/2014 21:27

Thanks all seems an average price then, thanks for letting me know re membership

Gosh, I'm quite shocked. I was quoted £240 (inc £40 membership) for an Oxfordshire class. I had to turn it down, far too much money in my opinion. It's maddening that prices can vary that much.

Meirasa · 20/10/2014 09:14

Ours was 302 + 40 membership. In London- was very shocked by the cost but decided to pay it as I am new to the area and rather pathetically wanted to use it to meet other new soon to be Mum's rather than learn what I could in the NHS classes for free. I am also attending the NHS pain relief class as I've heard the NCT classes are a bit one sided in their approach to this x

mrshjb · 20/10/2014 09:23

£170 for 17 hours including a meet up in West Yorkshire. I think that's too expensive so some of yours are crazy to me!

gargalesis · 20/10/2014 09:45

I'm in North Yorkshire. The full course cost was £205 but I got a huge discount for being on a low income - I ended up paying £20.50.

We paid £180 for both DH and I to attend (West Yorkshire) this was without membership fee.

It's a lot of money but I'm hoping I gain some much needed mum-to-be friends/acquaintances as well as information through doing the course. Here's hoping Confused

OhMjh · 20/10/2014 10:25

If you're low income ( under 30k a year) you get a massive discount...I paid £18 for all my classes ( 2x 4 hour sessions 4x2 hour sessions)

Eminybob · 20/10/2014 10:41

I think I was quoted about £200 but decided to just use the nhs ones which were fab and the only benefit I would see from nct was they were on a Saturday, but DP was able to get the time off work.

I have made friends from the nhs post natal classes so I don't think nct is essential for that.

soundsystem · 20/10/2014 12:23

Ours was £170 for 5 x 2 hour sessions on Saturday mornings, plus the meetup (London). Then the optional membership fee of £40 on top. This is the Essentials course which has been fine for us - as others have said, was mostly looking at it as a way of meeting other new parents. Not sure we learned anything we couldn't have learned from a book but was good to make us thing/talk about what it would be like after the birth, and DH liked the pracical bits (nappy changing, bathing, etc)

StrangeGlue · 20/10/2014 12:29

We've paid £240 for 6x 2hr evenings, post baby meet-up and extended membership. Tis expensive but I think it's worth it (based on last time). No NHS classes here so nct or nothing.

cheshirem2b · 20/10/2014 12:39

Our course is £220 for two full Saturdays and a Tuesday evening session (plus meet up after babies are born) and that includes 12m membership - it is pricey but I'm hoping to meet other mums-to-be in the area through it

broodysnoopstie · 20/10/2014 14:21

I'm in London midwife said nct are £350 -400 nearly! just free nhs ones for me Smile

Rustyzilla · 20/10/2014 15:02

What's the benefit of the membership fee element?

gargalesis · 21/10/2014 14:32

No NHS classes here either StrangeGlue, they were scrapped last year. I'm really lucky I was able to get the low income discount otherwise I wouldn't have been able to attend any antenatal classes.

Mumto3dc · 21/10/2014 14:40

Woooooooow.....
How much?!
What the hell are you paying for?!
I've somehow managed to have 3 babies very smoothly without a single nct class...
V shocked!!
