I've an underactive throid and I've never heard of this. I did have additional checks in pregnancy to check my thyroid was behaving. and my meds were increased. But nobody mentioned being induced....

Never head of this and I have an underactive thyroid. I have a ten week old and wasn't induced.

I was induced with ds but not due to the low thyroid - he had low fluid level. I was just monitored throughout.

Mothers with underactive thyroids (assuming no other conditions or concerns about the baby's growth) are not routinely induced in any hospital I've ever worked in.

I thought it was a bit bizarre hadnt been mentioned up until now as iv switched hospitals. My thyroid has been in normal range from day one! Phew I really dont want to be induced.
thanks

not heard of that. I had additional monitoring with the thyroid consultant man as my levels went haywire (25 micrograms - 200 micrograms!) ds was prem baby and I was then monitored again when I was feeding him to make sure my levels were right, but was never told would need to be induced

littlemissy12345 · 20/10/2014 18:46

I was induced with my first, I had reduced foetal movements and they said with my under active thyroid they would not take a chance and induce me.

littlemissy12345 · 20/10/2014 18:47

But it wasn't planned!

I was induced after going +14 days and DD2 was born with congenital hypothyroidism. Was told by one consultant that she wouldn't have come out naturally due to her condition. Probably not connected at all but posting in case relevant.

minipie · 20/10/2014 19:57

I've been told I'll have an extra growth scan at 34 or 36 weeks (can't remember which) because hypothyroidism can cause growth issues.

I guess if that scan shows the baby isn't growing well then they would consider inducing early.

Maybe that's what they meant??

America1 · 23/10/2014 08:07

She didnt ezplain it well...pulled my notes out shes wrote that ill will be induced +10 days and not the +14 days. I thought she meant early! Yes you should get growth scans at 28 32 36 etc but my boy is already 5lb at 33 wks :)
