I'm a first time mum. Raised bmi.
In 29+2
Had my GTT and whilst the second reading after glucose was ok, the initial test was raised so I'm being referred to the GD team.
I'm hoping yo manage it with a change of diet (didn't think it was too bad but there you go!)
I've had a growth scan and baby was measuring average on the charts.
I'd really appreciate your experiences - how did you manage GD? Birth weights, inductions before edd etc etc
Thanks ladies!

I was diagnosed 2-3 weeks ago, and it's not as horrid as I thought. I'm eating more than I was before & made a few changes.
I will be induced, but that just means I don't have the panic of how to get to the hospital!!
You will be looked after so well from here on out...be positive :)

Hi, I have GD too, diagnosed at 28 wks, am 40 wks now. I have just used diet and actually been fine - no high readings over target, mainly around mid 4's and 5's sometimes in the 6's. It was a huge worry at first, but the scans have been reassuring and am off to be induced in a few days. I have never been induced before, so it is a bit of an anxious time, but I have been reassured by lots of positive stories on MN. If you do a search for gestational diabetes you will find lots of threads - I found them very helpful after diagnosis.

Good luck!

Hi, I'm 32+4 and was diagnosed at 28 weeks (an earlier GTT at 18 weeks had been fine). My GTT results were fairly borderline, like you my 2nd test was fine.

I'm monitoring my blood sugar and for the first couple of weeks thought I was doing ok at keeping it fairly steady (testing twice a day), with a few spikes and a few cheats. Went for a growth scan at 30 weeks and the baby's abdominal circumference had jumped up to just above the top line, all other measurements remaining on the middle line. Spoke to the dietician who basically said that I need to get rid of all spikes and be really strict in order to see the measurements come back into line. So I have. I also started monitoring my blood sugar 4x a day, so fasting and then 1hr post each meal, only the odd snack chosen from oatcakes/cheese/vegetables/nuts or an apple. Next scan is in ten days and my bloods for the past fortnight have all been within the limits (bar one) so I'm hoping it will show, otherwise I'll be put on Metformin.

Due to my age and not wanting to be induced, I am already on course for an ELCS at 39 weeks anyway, so it doesn't affect my birth options too much.

Good luck. It was daunting at first and I felt very guilty about it, even though it's not really my fault. It does get easier though, and my silver lining is that I'm not putting on loads of unnecessary weight thanks to having to follow a very healthy diet.
