How do I get rid of Thrush in 1st trimester?

Hi, since getting my BFP on Tuesday, I've developed thrush. Im a bit wary of taking and over the counter meds as I've suffered an ectopic and chemical this year.

Any sure fire natural ways that are safe and work as I'm getting really uncomfortable?

Thanks x

my advice is....see a doctor ta-dah!

because... i spent five years treating reoccuring thrush with over the counter medicines ( you know the one) becuase i didnt want to bother the doctor.

turns out.... it wasnt thrush at all but Ezema (sp?) simple aqueous solution worked wonders.

but i dont know if hat is safe for you because you are preggers (congrats btw you must be thrilled and scared in equal measure) xx

Go to dr. But when I did I was prescribed canestan pessary, so I guess this is safe to use in pregnancy. Was told not to use the plastic applicator though.

I find that a few drops of tea tree oil on my finger, pop finger up myself sorts it over night. It feels like your minky is sucking a polo mint but I promise it works, I've been using this for years and there's never been anything but positive results.

See the Dr, honestly. I had thrush for 3 months when pg with DS, it only responded to a 3 day course of flucanazole. Plus, you won't pay for prescriptions now and that stuff is expensive

Thanks everyone. I usually use the Canestan duo thingy if I get but just very wary of anything so early on. The pharmacist said he won't give me anything in the first trimester, so I wasn't sure if a gp would say the same.

Use canesten pessary and cream as normal.

Pobblewhohasnotoes · 18/10/2014 09:12

Cream and pessary are fine during pregnancy but you're not allowed the tablet.

Lottiedoubtie · 18/10/2014 09:12

See the doctor, you'll get treatment and it'll be free.

Get the thrush sorted ASAP and keep on top of it. Because you really really really don't want to still be struggling with it after the birth and end up with nipple thrush. Trust me.

PoshPenny · 18/10/2014 09:33

See the Dr and explain the canesten is not touching it. They can prescribe you something else. Miconazole cream once a day for 14 days was fantastic for me, and I didn't get thrush again for years.

Thank you, guess it'll have to wait until Monday when the surgery is open.

the boots brand of pessary and cream specifically says on the instructions that its safe in pregnancy, so thats a bit odd of your pharmacist. (my mw said it was fine too)I find a salty bath sometimes helps as well to prevent it, give that a go if youre waiting to see the gp?

Tranquilitybaby · 18/10/2014 16:51

I think it was the fact it because it's the first trimester he was saying he could give me anything. Thanks xx

Natural yoghurt works well, but can get a little messy apply and put a pad on, i had to use it on holiday as they had no creams for thrust and its a natural way of treating it :)

skyra13 · 18/10/2014 17:08

I have also found using HP balance washes really help for down below the femfresh seems to keep me in check and not had thrush since i have started washing with it.

You can have canestan cream and pessary in any trimester. The pharmacist probably wanted you to go to the Dr so that the number of times your using it is recorded (sometimes people have other infections that they keep treating as thrush but it isn't - in pregnancy whatever the real infection is could be dangerous. So if one course of treatment doesn't work the Dr would want swabs before trying another thrush treatment).

A walk-in centre gp would give a prescription to you, if you don't want to wait until Monday. Also you could get natural plain live yogurt (the one with natural bacteria), and put that on, its messy but is a home remedy.

I have used tea tree while preg yes.
