Good morning ladies..
I am very very worried. Yesterday I saw community midwife for a regular check up and first she measured me 35 then he tried again and the measurement was +2 c.She said it's OK but it shouldn't be bigger difference than 2cm.
Other two pregnancies were always good (11&10 yrs ago). This made me confused and worried. Can anyone advice me what it means and if ou have an similar experience?
Thank you so much....

I wouldn't get too concerned, measurements are not hugely scientific and even a scan isn't v accurate for baby size.

Jessicahyde85 · 18/10/2014 06:24

Don't panic, I was measuring 42 weeks at 35 weeks along, there was a lot of concerned looks but my son was born at 37 weeks and weighed 7lbs 4 Turns out there was just a LOT of water.

Relax you will be fine.

Emus · 18/10/2014 06:38

I measured 3 weeks ahead throughout my entire pregnancy and was warned by my midwife that I may not go to term and that my baby could be very big. My ds was born a day after his due date and was 6lb 10oz. I just had ALOT of water!

Borttagen · 18/10/2014 06:44

I have the opposite problem in that I'm measuring too small but by more than 3cm. Had a scan and baby is measuring spot on and everything looks fine. Don't think bump measurements are very accurate to be honest!

lupo5 · 18/10/2014 08:27

Thank you so much. The way she said it shouldn't get bigger made me bit scared but I am so silly, didn't ask why?

You are not silly, you were overwhelmed, we all walk away from appointments and think " ahh should have asked...." If you are concerned book an appointment with your midwife and ask her to explain further.

The official rule is -/+3cm. You are 34+ so anyqhere up to 37.5cm wouldbe okay.
Measuring too big or small can indicate problems but its a basic guide. Fetal position can affect the measurement

Bellyrub1980 · 18/10/2014 18:16

My tape measurements were 50 centiles smaller than my growth scans until about 27 weeks, and then they became 50 centiles bigger. A big part of it was the babies position which was transverse initially. When she moved to head down she stuck out a lot more.

After panicking that the baby was below the 10th centile on my first tape measure the scan showed it was totally wrong and I started ignoring the measurements altogether!

Try not to worry.

AnythingNotEverything · 18/10/2014 21:06

A one off measurement which looks big or small isn't an issue. They measure to track your fundal height against average growth patterns.

It's notoriously inaccurate unless done by the same mw, with the same tape measure etc etc.

have you been screened for gestational diabetes

may be worth considering

lupo5 · 19/10/2014 04:29

Thank you for your replies. I was tested for diabetes and everything came ok.My last two pregnancies were ok (long time ago) so when midwife said it in the way she did ,once I left clinic I started panicking.
I will call them on monday and see if I cam just get info on what does it mean..Thank you so much.
It's very hard not to worry...Sad

I had an induction for other reasons, I was going to have one from complications with a previous pregnancy. I hope they tell you all you need tomorrow.

Star85 · 19/10/2014 06:51

With both my pregnancys I measured a week bigger. My 1st pregnancy was fine and 5 days late I have birth to a 9lb 12 BIG baby!! I am a very small size 8. My 2 nd pregnancy I measured big again and my growth scan he was off the 95th centile ?? I was tested for gestational diabetes which came back clear, I seen a Dr who told me my baby would be an "average" size and I had delivered big before so not to worry! At 36weeks my waters were leaking and I was induced, I gave birth to a 8lb 15 baby. Kinda glad I didn't go full term as he would have been massive and with my small frame I can only fear the complications that would hav happened. X
