Anyone had an ELCS at Stepping Hill Hospital?

It's likely I will be having one, haven't been offered any other hospital options but I wondered if anyone has any experience of the care there?

Thanks

I have! They were brilliant, it was a lovely experience in fact after the first being an emergency.
The surgeon came to see us prior to the surgery. We asked him if we could do a couple of things and he was really helpful and did everything exactly as we asked. Then the anesthetist came and she was lovely. It was a jokey fun atmosphere in theatre. All good. Good luck. Xx

Not an elcs but I did have my baby there and the care was very good.

I am booked in for an ELCS at stepping hill in ten days time! I've read so many mixed reports I am starting to get anxious. Has anyone had a recent experience that can put my mind at rest?

No previous experience but I am also booked in for an ELCS at Stepping Hill in 8 weeks so watching with interest. Good luck & let us know how it goes if you get chance Smile

I had an ELCS there just over a year ago and was very well looked after-all staff were excellent and they really made me feel at ease- there was a lovely relaxed/jokey atmosphere in theatre and on the ward afterwards they were keen to privide assistance or privacy as we preferred...I went in on a Friday, everything was very straightforward and they let me go home the next day (I had heard you can sometimes have difficulty getting discharged/everything signed off at weekends but this wasn't the case) in fact I can't fault any of the care we received there throughout my pregnancy. Good luck x

I used to be one of the doctors there (and was there just over a year ago so may have met mrsmallet
I think it's a great department. Consultants are friendly, experienced and midwives are a lovely bunch. ELCS are usually straightforward and the atmosphere in theatre is good.
Enjoy it and good luck!

Thank you mrsmallett & rainbow - that's really reassuring to hear!

I haven't given birth there but I have a friend who's a midwife there and says it's the best maternity unit she has ever worked in. She's late 40s so lots of experience in quite a few different hospitals.

Ooh that's good to hear torwood, the midwives I've met there so far do seem lovely & have been very reassuring each time I've been in so all looking good, roll on the next 7 weeks!

This is all v reassuring! I am definitely feeling less panicked this week, partly as I am now so fed up of being pregnant I can't to meet this baby!!

I know this thread is old but I have exactly the same question so thought there was little point in making a new thread! I’d be interested to know your experiences as I will have an ELCS there. Thank you.

Oatymilk · 24/05/2024 20:24

Hopeful bump!

blueblind · 24/05/2024 20:33

@Oatymilk I haven't personally but my friend had one at Stepping Hill in December and her experience was a positive one. I had a vaginal birth there in the birth centre (also in December) and all the staff were just absolutely incredible so hopefully you'll have a good experience! The only downside for us both is that we had to wait hours in the postnatal ward for prescriptions before being discharged but I would assume that's the same in most hospitals!
