Are thrush creams okay in preg? I'm 38+5.

Definitely. Although pharmacies don't have a licence to sell it to preggers ladies but it's exactly what your g.p would prescribe. Just need to be careful with the pessaries and avoid using the applicator. Can't you tell I've had thrush once or twice!

Ok that's great thanks. My vag really doesn't like the almond oil for perineal massage!!

Yes fine. It's also fine to use the pessaries with the applicator. They don't go in any further than a tampon would.

I had a lot of trouble getting anything over the counter. The Dr left a prescription at the reception desk for me without even having to see me though and said its absolutely safe. No worries with regards to the applicator mentioned and thats what he prescribed.

Hormonal fluctuations during pregnancy can make you susceptible to thrush. During pregnancy, the vagina becomes rich in a form of glucose named ‘glycogen’, which feeds the growth of Candida albicans. It’s believed the higher levels of glycogen occur due to increased oestrogen levels and reduced acidity in the vagina. This is why a pregnant woman is ten times more likely to get thrush than normal.
During my pregnancy, my doctor advised me to use a pessary, instead of a cream, as this can be inserted without an applicator. When creams are used to treat thrush in pregnancy, they are better used without an applicator and instead being inserted by hand, unless a doctor says it is okay.
Over the counter preparations, may help you with quick relief but its only about fixing a symptom. Regular probiotic and change in diet and lifestyle can keep thrush under control during your pregnancy. Avoid cotton pants and choose cotton underwear. Have yogurt every day, it serves a natural source of good bacteria (very low though) however, it could be of little help if itching is the problem. Add garlic in your diet, it is one of the effective ways to get rid of thrush in women. Avoid using douche, bubble bath and swimming in chlorine and heated pools; which can all further upset the pH of the vagina.
Hope I helped.
