Pregnant and 43

Hi I need some reassurance if anyone out there can help. I'm 43 and 6 weeks naturally. No kids so far but a mc back in April. I feel fine but have a constant dread of something bad happening again. Everywhere you look, there are negative articles about women over 40 being pg. There are hardly any positive articles. I don't care what peoples opinions are but I do care if something bad happens. Are there any positive stories people can tell me about second pregnancies at this age? At the moment I have mood swings and the odd ache which I believe is normal.

Have a good search on here, you'll find lots of positive storys and supportive threads started by people who feel like you do.

And stay away from the daily mail.

I'm 40, currently 32 weeks, no kids to date, but had a mmc last summer.

My only advice is to avoid reading scaremongering crap about being an older mother! Certainly my mws and consultant are very relaxed about me being older. In fact they give the impression that I'd have to be at least 45 for them to even raise an eyebrow.

Realistically, of course there are a few more risks as you get older, but pregnancy is risky at any age, and I'm actually in better shape now than I was in my twenties and thirties!

Good luck.

I'm also in the same ballpark and having my first. My GP reckons that other than a slightly increased risk of Down's etc, I have no more risks than a 19 year old, and basically says to me to listen to no crap.

Thanks for the advice. I have my first scan next week. All being well, it should be straight forward after that ! Good luck to everyone else.

Hiya, I'm 7 weeks pregnant, 42 years old and part of an older mums ante natal group which has just started up if you would like to wander over: it's called: Old bird graduates, gather round....let's talk chicklets! ( no offence intended to anyone, the name refers to a standing joke that had been going for a long time, on a thread for older mums TTC naturally & through IVF .) See ya over there and good luck!

Hiya, I am 44 and 7 weeks pregnant with no 2 after 7 years of trying and what will be a 9 yr age gap. I am terrified a lot of the time if I am honest and just counting down the days till first scan on 6 Nov when I will be approx 9wks. I am hoping that will put my mind at ease a bit. Good luck with it all

Hi. After 1 MMC and a blighted ovum last year I am 19 weeks preganant at the grand old age of 45. Apart from sickness and feeling a bit tired at the beginning, I am feeling fine. I was and still am anxious about it but you really can't be terrified for the whole nine months Grin

Good luck with the rest of your pregnancy.

I had my surprise baby last year at the age of 42 (he was a real surprise - my husband had a vasectomy 10 years before we met!). He is now a healthy, busy happy nearly 18 month old. I had fewer problems in pregnancy than most, although he was induced at 34+5 due to my waters breaking at 33 weeks, that wasn't due to my age! Good luck to all of you xx

My mum had me when she was 41 and I've turned out pretty awesome ?? also my friend had her son at 43 and he's great too. So is my cousin who my auntie had at 41. There is a lot out there about the perils of being pregnant when you are older but before contraception many women were having healthy babies in their 40s, so despite what the papers say its not all doom and gloom.
