Big Belly Baby

Hi, so today I am 39+5 and getting nervous about the size of my baby. I had a growth scan at 39 weeks exactly (was routine procedure due to reduced fetal movement... Which is all okay now) and at the scan they measured the baby's belly and commented on how large it was. It's measuring above the 95th percentile. The head is also large but not quite above the line. I know it sounds daft but I'm getting worried now. I had an appointment with my midwife on Monday who wasn't sure so thought she would refer to someone but haven't heard anything back yet. Has anyone else experienced this?? Thanks so much Smile

If it was a concern they would have said something or referred you at scan so I think you needn't worry. I think the measurements they take tend to be a bit hit and miss generally. For example the predicted weight is rarely right.
Good luck with last few days ...

Thank you heliotrope Smile I know I'm just being extra paranoid but I stupidly read about people being induced for this sort of thing and started to panic. Fingers crossed he/she will arrive soon. Smile

My baby's abdomen measured really big (certainly bigger than the rest of the measurements and in the high percentiles) and he was born perfectly in proportion (if anything, he has a big head, which did not appear on the scan measurements).

My first dc had a large tummy measurement on one of his growth scans (we had quite a few!) the sonographer explained that babies actually drink the amniotic fluid and wee whilst still in your tummy so if they had just had a big drink or not had a wee for a while then it can seem that they have a large tummy when they actually don't. Another sonographer joked that my baby was just a fatty Hmm but when he was born he was big (just over 10 pounds) but he was really long do not especially chubby.

I had a scan at 36 weeks to check if DS1 was breech. He was not. But the measurements they took showed that his head circumference was off the graph (literally off the line!) and his tummy was 98yh centile too! I got a bit scared but the MW didn't seem bothered so I concentrated on my hypnobirthing positive affirmations (sorry a bit woo but it worked for me!). I went on to give birth to a 9lb4 baby boy at 41 weeks. Whose head circumference was enormous!

I used gas and air and had a small (2nd degree) perenium tear which I didn't feel when it happened and I can honestly say labour wasn't that bad at all.

Keep telling yourself that your body will only grow the right sized baby for you!
