Top and tail bowls...

These seem like a bit of a waste of money to me. Surely a couple of ordinary bowls will do?

What do you use?

I use the sink. On dc2 now and never missed not having t&t bowls

katandkits · 14/10/2014 13:21

I just remember to wash her face before her arse. Don't need a special bowl for that! You are right, they are a waste of money.

jaykay34 · 14/10/2014 14:02

I can totally understand that they are a waste of money and that you can easily do without - but I actually use mine everyday Smile . I did with my elder children too.
I'm embarrased to say it but it's one of those worthless products I secretly love and have use for. I even bought one to use for my youngest child (hangs head in shame) Blush .
I don't know anybody else who agrees with me on this !

Pumpkinification · 14/10/2014 14:05

Wash face before bum. Clean flannel each day, or just use cotton wool. No problem.

Shelduck · 14/10/2014 14:05

I liked using bowls, but we just used a couple of plastic bowls that were kicking around (and marked them as "top" and "tail"). They don't need to be very big.

Was initially puzzled by your question, and after a quick Google, am appalled to learn that anyone is flogging bowls specifically for this purpose. What a waste!

SantasLittleMonkeyButler · 14/10/2014 14:08

Yep, totally unnecessary. Just use a clean flannel/sponge or use cotton wool & remember to wash baby's face first & bottom last.

I owned one because it came with my first baby bath, but never used it.

stargirl1701 · 14/10/2014 14:27

Picked up one for 50p at an NCT sale. We still use it everyday and DD1 is 25 months. Great bargain!

WhyOWhyWouldYou · 14/10/2014 15:05

Totally unnecessary but I do own one and like it. It was brought for us (i wouldnt have bough one myself). It is a nice size (smaller than some I've seen) and I can't knock it over like I probably would a little individual pot. But I really don't think I'd have missed it if I hadn't been bought one.

Bellyrub1980 · 14/10/2014 15:27

Thankyou for the responses! I shall follow the mantra 'face before arse' and use cotton wool and two plastic bowls out of the kitchen!

katiegee · 14/10/2014 16:46

I've been wondering the same thing, but came to the conclusion that plastic bowls from the kitchen would do the same job! Love the face before arse mantra :)

Another bewildering product I found in Mothercare is a shampoo rinsing cup for 6.99! Surely the plastic jug in the kitchen (that cost 1.00) will do the same job?!

Bellyrub1980 · 14/10/2014 19:42

That is literally taking a jug, giving it a different babe and then charging triple the cost for it!!

Babe = name

Face first, arse last.

N.B. DC1 is on the way, so I haven't actually had any experience of top and tailing, however, I was always led to believe it was something you do to French beans. And babies don't have tails.

So for those reasons; I'm out. I shall be using a takeaway container bowl and applying the above mantra.

starfishmummy · 14/10/2014 20:12

Someone gave us one. We found it handy handy for carrying changing supplies round in. But wouldn't have bought one ourselves

Glitterbug21 · 14/10/2014 20:13

Ohhh my god. They will just try to sell you anything wont they?

angryangryyoungwoman · 14/10/2014 20:18

Got mine in a package with the baby bath. Used it every day for my daughter who is now 11 months, wouldn't have bought one specifically, but would have set up something similar

impomea · 14/10/2014 20:22

I didn't know special bowls existed. We used 2 old plastic bowls which christmas puds came in ,one green and one red.I used cooled boiled water to wash him and cotton wool.Rinsed the bowl after with boiling water out of the kettle .Those were the days [looking at 6ft4 ds1 wistfully] Smile.

MyGastIsFlabbered · 14/10/2014 20:22

We used clean margarine tubs for both of mine Shock are my boys going to be scarred for life?

ch1134 · 14/10/2014 20:35

I don't get it! And my son is 6mo! I was given a top n tail bowl but gave it away. My baby gets a bath evety night and a wet wipe when his face is dirty.

bagofsnakes · 15/10/2014 13:16

Also agree that you totally don't need one and, like a couple of posters about, we only got one as it came with a bath set we were gifted. That said, we did/do use it a lot. I'd say don't buy one but if someone gives you one keep it handy, they have all kinds of uses.
