Dealing with nausea

Has anyone got any tips on dealing with the nausea?

I'm not throwing up just feeling sick all day, horrible taste in my mouth and feeling hungry all the time. But the thought of eating most foods I usually like makes me heave.

iWeb I eat the nausea goes for about half an hour and then comes back.

I've been sipping ginger beer (sugar hit) and eating ginger biscuits to try and keep the nausea at bay. Keeping fluids up is meant to be good too, and sometimes eating something salty can help. I normally don't like salty crisps, but I ate a load last night and actually felt a bit better for it.
I've been trying to force myself to eat regularly so I don't get too hungry and therefore feel really sick, still have unpleasant taste in my mouth though, and still feel a bit nauseous, but I think it does help a bit.

I feel exactly the same right now. This is my second pregnancy and I swear I didn't feel quite this awful last time. I can barely function and I have a 3 year old to look after. Even drinking is a struggle because my stomach churns every time I drink something.

Purplefrogshoes · 14/10/2014 12:49

I'm struggling too, ice cold water and boiled sweets are helping a bit

ChickenMe · 14/10/2014 22:58

Ice lollies, fruit, fruity sweets, fizzy sweets, mint tea and salty foods/strong flavoured crisps like salt n vigener were all life savers for me. Urgh that taste it is vile. I think the taste was the worst bit. I couldn't describe it to OH. Tastes like death.

KatoPotato · 14/10/2014 23:01

You can set your watch by my nausea. 5pm. Feels like the hangover from hell!

Pyjamaramadrama · 14/10/2014 23:05

Thanks for the tips, horrible isn't it?

Everything stinks as well. Things that never smelt to me before, the changing rooms in the swimming baths, the air freshener in the car all make me gag.

Strong grapefruit squash and water biscuits helped for a bit. Then sips of cold milk. The thing that finally made it bearable was chewing gum.

Lisad1975 · 15/10/2014 05:12

Oh its awful and I was the same till about 16 ish weeks.
Really skinny white toast was good for me and also cold water/ weak squash. Plain cereal bars and rich tea biscuits.
Anything kind of white and bland was ok too.
I could smell things a mile off and would make me heave , even looking at things in tesco made me v quesy :(
It does pass tho !

Travel sickness bands really helped me. They go on your wrists.

Eat all day long, anything you can manage.

Hope it passes soon, nausea is the pits.

FreckleBee · 15/10/2014 08:29

I'm struggling with this too, the taste is the worst as it keeps you feeling sick Sad
Ice lollies are good for keeping you hydrated if you're struggling to drink lots. I also found chopping up an apple and having a couple of pieces every so often quote good initially.
I feel your pain and hope it passes quickly for you and that you enjoy the rest of pregnancySmile

ChickenMe · 15/10/2014 09:33

I'm 15+4 and I still have nausea although not as bad. It's laughable tho cos I have nausea at night too!!
Still have weird food aversions. Can't really stomach meat :(
Yes grapefruit yummmmGrin

Lornags · 15/10/2014 10:03

I've terrible nausea too, it starts from the minute I wake up until I go to sleep. Can't eat much at all. Managed some plain pasta, a banana and Jacobs crackers yesterday. Can't even stomach a banana today. Good luck to you all.

Daisy17 · 15/10/2014 17:41

Another one here for whom travel sickness bands are working miracles - still feel nauseous but can eat a lot more easily and don't feel the need to lie down at every moment. I don't think everyone gets on with them, but they're about £8 in Boots and worth a go!

Pyjamaramadrama · 15/10/2014 18:11

What I'm finding now is I'm ok if I eat, but half an hour after eating I feel sick, and I don't really want to eat as everything tastes weird, but I can't keep eating all day as I'll be half a house!

It might be useful to try the travel sickness bands, do those of your who are suffering nausea also get carsick? I do and I read that people with motion sickness are more prone to nausea.

Oh just looked at the sickness bands at Boots, they have good reviews.

Yes I'm a terrible traveller, that's so strange that there is a link between the two as it feels like constant car sickness to me

Pyjamaramadrama · 16/10/2014 17:54

I bought some of those sickness bands from Boots today, did bugger all for me unfortunately Hmm

Although, I bought some Mum Kind ginger and chamomile lozenges from Sainsburys and although they taste a bit vile they seem to have helped.
