Hello

I'm probably not posting this in the right place so apologies!

We have a 3 year old chocolate labrador, he's very good tempered but can be a bit bouncy (usually when him and DH have a wrestle session!). I'm not due till April with DC1 but want to get prepared early with our dog to cause minimum disruption to both him and DC.

Has anyone had any experience of books or websites/ literature for preparing dog for new baby etc?

I know all the usual tips such as getting him used to sounds/smells, letting him smell baby's blanket before introducing, never leaving them alone etc.

Any tips/ or book recommendations would be fab.

I used this The sounds soothing one. At the time they sold in cd form with a little tip info booklet.

I was surprised how easily my Cocker Spaniel adjusted, my friend lent me quite a realistic doll to adore in front of my dog too, to shower dolly with attention, carry around, lie on changing mat on floor and send dog to bed when dolly was having 'nappy change'.
Before I was preg dog was spoiled so banned sitting on sofa before baby come so he didn't associate loss of privilege with the baby coming.

Now baby is a toddler they are great chums. Smile

I downloaded the above book and cd and it's really good. I was very nervous about my jumpy Jack russel but now feel more confident. Baby not here yet so we'll see how it goes!
We also started not letting him on the sofa and re trained him in everything we'd got a bit slack on.

You're welcome and good luck, it really has helped my dog, he ignores most of the baby stuff!

The biggest thing that helped my bouncy dog was a doll that cried laughed etc we got told by the trainer to leave it in silly places on the floor on the dogs favourite blanket etc and to praise him but no treats if he left well alone now expecting number two so will probably do again as we have acquired another dog since ds1 we did have a couple of times where he'd be bouncy and would stand on baby as he came through the room but he quickly learnt he needed to be careful glad we did it that way as the doll use to cry when he stood on it and he then wouldn't come off his bed for half an hour (own choice we didn't put him there) the punishment as such was that he had to go outside for a couple of minutes
