Anyone pregnant and breastfeeding?

So DS is just 1 year old and I am 9+4 weeks pg with DC2.

I've posted before about finding feeding a real struggle and it's not getting any easier Sad It's sore and uncomfortable and I'm pretty sure there's not a lot of milk there.

Anyway, DS is only feeding 3x in 24 hours now and after the 12 week scan I'm planning on dropping another feed with the intent to wean him completely by the time I'm around 20 weeks.

To the point now - in the last few days DS's nappies have been horrific. They're like newborn nappies - poo is everywhere. I've been covered in poo twice and we've just had an emergency bath this afternoon!

I've read that your milk changes as pregnancy goes on and becomes more like colostrum so it can impact on an older baby's nappies.

Has anyone experienced this? Or could it simply be that DS has a bug?

He's in great form, has no temperature or vomiting and is eating and drinking no problem. No new foodstuffs in the last few days either.

Any experiences gratefully received!

I am Bfing a 15 month old and 9 weeks pregnant. I'm still feeding throughout the night but suspect she is not getting much as she is drinking from her sports bottle more often. I don't think it's colostrum yet. I'd read this happens at about 4 months. The nappies have been really sloppy though and stink. I've noticed the odd baby zit on her too. Maybe linked to the progesterone my poor nauseous body is currently flooded with.

vichill, that's all v familiar! He's gotten a few spots which is unusual and he's chugging back the water too.

Flooded with nausea here too - here's too the second trimester Smile

Yes, though she's down to just once a day, first thing in the morning. I'm 8+6 and it is sore but she still loves to feed and I can't bring myself to stop her. I am hoping she self weans in the next few months though.

WingsClipped · 12/10/2014 18:13

Yes. DD is 3 and we still feed occasionally. She's skipping days now so I think we are on the way to finally self weaning which is a relief. My nips have been sooo sore. I'm 14weeks now so just thinking the drop in supply will signal the end of our bf journey.

I'm still breastfeeding four of mine (25+6) and none of them seem to have problems with feeding. I do know some DC do stop or wean themselves a little due to the taste of the milk but that happened with us and there's been no changes in diapers either. I've been breastfeeding during 2 PGs and been blessed with no nipple problems - thank god!

It could be a bug or it could be that the changes/hormones etc you feel are effecting him through the bm.

I'm bfing DS2 who is 3, also bf DS1 while I was pregnant with DS2.

Down to twice a day now, morning and bedtime. I can't advise about the nappy thing as that's never happened, but DS2 has had a few baby zits recently so something must be happening!

I've not had any nipple soreness either and I tandem fed for 18months with no real problems.

I'm 30 weeks pregnant and still bf Dd who is 2. It's been really painful since about 18 weeks and since I got pregnant I've dropped feeds all over the place! She was pretty much having 5 feeds in 24 hours and now we're down to 1 or 2. Her poo has been a lot less solid in the last couple of weeks as I think my milk has come back after all but drying up during the second trimester. She was drinking cows milk in the morning and afternoon but now she's not interested in it any more which makes me think I have more milk. She didn't have explosive nappies in the first trimester though. Good luck op with your pregnancy and bf journey. I've found it tough but kept going because my dd finds it such a comfort. But wow is it hard when your sick and tired!

I have a 7 month DS and I'm pregnant with number 2! We're still BF and I'm in my first trimester still. I feel as though my supply has dropped. DS seems more thirsty and my boobs are smaller.
We haven't had the same nappy problem but I am thinking about introducing formula now just to make sure he's getting enough.

MediumOrchid · 13/10/2014 11:03

I'm 36 weeks pg and still feeding dd who is 2. I have had a lot less milk since quite early on, but dd doesn't seem bothered about how much she gets, it's more of a comfort thing. I went away for the weekend without dd a few weeks ago and there was no difference in my breasts from when I left to when I got back, they didn't feel full at all.

I had pain when feeding in the first trimester, it was one of my only pregnancy symptoms, and in fact was about the only pain I've had in breastfeeding at all! It got better though and isn't painful at all now.

Now I just have to work out how it works with feeding two! I think it's going to be a bit strange for dd when my milk comes in, because I don't expect she can remember there being that much milk! I'm sure we will work it out though...

Thanks for the experiences ladies!

We were with GP today and she reckons the nappies are to do with a bug or else teething.

I don't know if I'll last through this uncomfortable and painful time to tandem feed but I've so much admiration for those of you who do it.

I continued to breastfed my DS1 till first half of my pregnancy. However, you need to check with your midwife first. If you have a history of miscarriage or you're noticing strong contractions while you nurse, it's wise to stop. Fortunately I didn’t suffer any nipple problem during my second pregnancy. It is very important to drink plenty of water and increase calcium intake during pregnancy while bfing to ensure you have adequate supply of milk.
Although breast milk continues to be nutritionally sound throughout pregnancy, the content of your breast milk will change — which might change the way your milk tastes. In addition, your milk production is quite likely to decrease as your pregnancy progresses. These factors could lead your nursing child to wean on his or her own before the baby is born. Taking frequent naps together and easing your child into accepting more care from Dad can help ease this transition.

Stripylikeatiger · 14/10/2014 05:49

I'm nearly full term and my 2 year old breastfeed a few times a day, I didn't notice any difference in his nappies until around 30 weeks, now they stink and are much less firm, but I'm pretty sure my milk isn't real colostrum yet as I pumped the other day and it was watery white milk not thick or yellow.

I found feeding got much easier after 30 weeks, I had terrible feeding aversion before then, I do hope feeding 2 goes well, it will be interesting to see what dc1 thinks of the huge amount of milk that will come when the baby comes!
