24 weeks, dreadful knee and hip pain - pregnancy or injury?

I had awful pelvic pain from 18 weeks. Midwife referred me to a physio and I've heard nothing since - presumably physio is too busy and maybe I'll get to see them when I'm retired. In the meantime I saw an osteopath who has fixed my pelvic pain. I had two pain free days :-) but now horrible knee pain, like my knee cap is not attached properly and resulting pain in my hip as well. I'm fed up with it and can barely walk. Is this a pregnancy thing or have I hurt myself? Does anyone else have this - is it a thing?

I had this - it was a combination of the two, so slacker ligaments which made it easier to get injured. My physio (private - well worth the £40 or so!!!), showed me how the knee pain was related to the hip pain. Basically the muscles down one side of each leg were tightening to try to support me while my pelvis was dodgy, and pulling the knee cap out of place. I even had problems in my feet, as a knock on effect!

Mine was helped by wearing knee supports (Boots stretchy ones), but fixed by her showing me how to massage the muscles to release them, and how exactly to put the pelvis back when it went out of alignment. It took one appointment, then I got my DH to do the massaging and did my exercises for my hips twice a day. Problem solved.

Group physio?! How does that work? I really rate osteopaths enormously and have had lots of issues resolved using them but are you saying they are better for this particular problem. I'm so unhappy with how much pain I'm in. I can't find any position that doesn't hurt, I can't walk anywhere and I'm just sat here feeling sorry for myself. So I will happily see a physio if it might help.

It could be iliotibial band syndrome. I have it all the time. It is mostly in my hip but sometimes in my knee as well--sometimes it's referred to as runner's knee.

Mine is caused by flexible hips and pronating flat feet. My feet roll in, twisting my hips out of alignment. I second the vote for physio. I can also recommend sitting on a foam roller and rolling back and forth on it. You should be able to buy one from a physio or a specialty running store.

If you have a rolling pin, try rolling it up and down the front of your thigh really hard, it should release some of the stiffness.

It's so incredibly painful isn't it, and you can't take any real pain meds while pregnant. Good luck.
