What's going on?!

I'm 38 weeks with my 1st. In the last 3 days the baby has moved head down (from transverse - both positions proven by scan) and ever since been going a bit mental! Wrigging more than she ever had before and it feels like she's pushing her head down into my pelvis trying to force her way out my fanjo!! I'm getting the occasional period pains and braxton hicks (mainly at night) but it's not in any regular pattern. But this squirming and pushing down is getting stronger and I have to tighten my pelvic floor really hard to avoid wetting myself!

Is this how it feels when the baby is engaging??? Or is this just how it feels to have a head down baby?

This is what mine feels like now at 38 + 4. At most recent appt, baby was still freely wriggling, not engaged but had just gone back to back.

Yup. Uncomfortable doesn't quite cover it. Fingers crossed you're not waiting too long for little one to make an appearance!

So this isn't a sign of anything happening then :(

Not necessarily no :( I hate to be the bringer of bad news but I had that head-down/fanjo collapsing thing with both of mine for weeks before they decided to get a move on. Sorry

It's okay. I'm managing to turn every sensation I have into a potential early sign of labour!! But this one felt a bit more like she was getting going!!

Ah well... Back to the waiting patiently (for 5 mins anyway)

You never know, you might go into labour tomorrow. Or you might not. This part is very tough, waiting and not knowing. Be as kind as you can to yourself, relax, eat plenty, watch tv, see a few friends, try as best you can not to second guess every twinge. You'll know labour when it comes and whacks you in the fanjo.

I'm 38 weeks on Monday and my little 'un has had a real wriggly day! Never known anything like it!

Bellyrub1980 · 10/10/2014 19:15

I wonder whether mine was just a bit stuck in transverse and now she's head down it's like she suddenly had loads of room to wriggle about in.

But I agree, if I was at work I probably wouldn't even notice these things. Need to focus on other stuff!

any change in babies movement should be checked out by your midwife, that can mean no movement or an increase in movement.

the pressure is the head pressing on the cervix, so yes getting ready.
