Had a different midwife today "oh you're big for 22 weeks" erm, look at the fucking notes, it's twins. She didn't know. FFS. Trace of sugar in my sample, cue lecture about diabetes. But not enough to warrant taking a blood sample? Eh? Wanted to give me back my USED sample bottle for next time!! Oh and I can expect the pg-pains to get worse and "well, there's nothing I can do about it" she said. Really caring attitude. Really fecked off. Came out in tears. But heard both heartbeats, so at least they're fine. But grrrrrrrrr. Anyone heard of reusing sample bottles? That's just icky.

I'm 35weeks have had to use the same sample pot the whole time. They let me take it home to empty, nice.

Do you have a support belt or anything? Wonder if that would help at all.
Sorry about the unsupportive midwife, hopefully you have somebody else next time.

PopcornFrenzy · 10/10/2014 12:04

Been using the same wee pot here and I'm 34 weeks, don't really mind tbh.

WhyOWhyWouldYou · 10/10/2014 12:15

I don't get how wee pots can be reused considering one of the things the dip test looks for is signs of infection, so if that picks up a potential issue they are then supposed to send it off for lab testing. If the pots contaminated then it could give false readings.

Olive1987 · 10/10/2014 13:02

I had to reuse mine too. I didn't really think about it at the time, but thinking about it now, it is a bit gross. Hopefully you get your usual mw next time :).

PrincessTheresaofLiechtenstein · 10/10/2014 13:08

Reusing the pot is normal practice.

Being uncaring isn't.

WhyOWhyWouldYou · 10/10/2014 13:21

But princess reusing the pot isn't normal practice, they are supposed to be sterile. I've always been given new ones and that's living in 3 different PCT areas, so not just one areas policy.

Pastamancer · 10/10/2014 13:28

Last pregnancy I used the same pot all the way through. Mw used to empty, clean and hand back to me each time. Different mw this time and same again

Showy · 10/10/2014 13:32

I've lived in 3 PCTs and always reused the pot. Standard practice. If they need to send a sample off, you do a fresh one.

SoonToBeSix · 10/10/2014 13:33

I have never resused the pot , that's gross.

stargirl1701 · 10/10/2014 13:34

Same pot is normal. They only change it if you have had an infection.

magpiegin · 10/10/2014 13:55

Yep, I had same pot too.

Mumto3dc · 10/10/2014 14:01

I've often been given the pot back to reuse.

But last time I was given a special sterile pot they can put a syringe in the top off.... From one extreme to the other!

Poor you with the mid wife's attitude, they do vary a lot, hope you have a nicer experience next time.

twiglet2 · 10/10/2014 14:02

I've been given the same pot back after each mw appointment.

Graciescotland · 10/10/2014 14:22

I've never had to use the same sample pot. In my third pregnancy in three different trusts. I have come across awkward midwives the worst was one who said mm'kay to everything followed by what do you think? I thought I was not the medical professional. Some midwives are just rubbish bit like any profession you get good and bad.

ToniWol · 10/10/2014 15:57

Another one with pot reusing here. Although I agree that the MW sounds a bit off.

katiegee · 10/10/2014 16:15

Yet another same pot user here. Your urine sample is routinely checked for sugars and protein, so the pot just needs to be clean, not sterile.

WhyOWhyWouldYou · 10/10/2014 16:34

Katiegee they are also looking for signs of infection and sample should be sent away if they are present, hence why they should be sterile.

MummyCoolski · 10/10/2014 16:41

Same pot here, as well. I think if there was any sign of infection you'd be asked to do another sample at the surgery in a clean pot for sending away.

Same pot just rinsed out here every time too. Including the time the GP took a urine sample from me. It's normal practice.

Can't believe you had to prompt her about the twins though!

Bellyrub1980 · 10/10/2014 17:05

(The pot doesn't need to be sterile)

PourquoiTuGachesTaVie · 10/10/2014 17:34

They give out urine sample pots at the reception desk for free in my dr's surgery.

FruitBadger · 10/10/2014 18:37

I've been using the same pot all the time since booking in too (now 34 weeks), they always give it back full too, they don't empty it. I just empty it at home and then pour a kettle of boiling water over and in it. Never really thought of it being a problem!

Pico2 · 10/10/2014 21:07

I was asked to reuse my pot each time last time (given back full). My GP was Shock and I'd rather follow a GP's advice on it than a MW, so got a supply from my GP.

How much can they possibly save by reusing them?

cakedcrusader · 10/10/2014 21:18

I never had a pot, mw used to just give me one of the dipsticks to pee on Confused makes more sense than sending you home with a pissy pot in your bag
