Could I have miscarried?

I did a pregnancy test about six weeks ago.... just a basic positive/ negative, nothing telling me how far along, but by my reckonings I would be about 8-10 weeks by now.

For one reason or another I haven't been to a doctor yet at any point.

I haven't had many symptoms at any stage really.... full & sore boobs, hungrier than usual, tired, and very rarely ever so slightly nauseous, but nothing major at all.

However over the past couple of weeks I've not felt any of these things & thought I would be able to feel even the slightest hint of a bump by now, but nothing.... still flat flat flat!

I'm wondering if I might have miscarried? I've had no bleeding or cramps, but have checked the internet, which states that in some cases there might not be bleeding or cramps, it's just that the heart stops beating.

As I haven't been to the doctors yet I'd rather try & figure it out myself first before having to go.

If I do a pregnancy test now would it still be positive either way, as I haven't actually passed anything? I'm thinking it will. But wondered whether a test which says how far along I am might give more information.

Does anyone have any experience of this or able to shed any light or advice?

Thanks in advance.

Is this your first? Uterus doesn't pop out of the pelvis until 12+ weeks so I wouldn't expect a bump until after then. I'm pregnant with my first and didn't develop one until around 16 weeks.

I also had no pregnancy symptoms at all early on and baby was fine. Every pregnancy is different and you'll find lots of woman who don't have the text book symptoms.

I would say yes, you would get a positive if you did a test now. I really do think the best way forward is to see a midwife so you can register and start getting your antenatal care. If you're worris she at even send you for an early scan Thanks

Either way it's important you see a doctor. They can do a blood test and reassure you, and you need to start with some blood tests etc to help have a safe and happy pregnancy. Are you in the UK? You'll have a scan at around 12 weeks.

There is such a thing as a missed miscarriage. I don't know much about this, but if you're at all concerned you should seek professional help.

Hi there,

A positive test six weeks ago would date you 9.5 weeks at the absolute minimum. You could have had a missed miscarriage, these are rare and the majority of miscarriages involve pain and bleeding. A missed miscarriage is when the baby dies and/or never develops properly but your body holds on to the products.

Either way, still pregnant or missed miscarriage, pregnancy tests will still show strong positives. A clear blue, which tells you how far along you are, will be totally inaccurate as to whether your pregnancy is developing or not.

You need to access antenatal care soon. If you want a scan then it can take a while to organise, it's not an instant thing and they are done before 14 weeks normally. Is everything ok?

We can't see inside your body. A scan can. Go to the doctor.

Pobblewhohasnotoes · 10/10/2014 05:29

It's unlikely you'll have a bump already. Symptoms can disappear but it doesn't mean something is wrong. Pregnancy tests don't work further along in the pregnancy (can't remember how long).

You do need to see a midwife to get your antenatal care going. I'd had my booking appointment and bloods at 8 weeks and scan at 12 so it's important you get the ball rolling.

Pobblewhohasnotoes · 10/10/2014 05:32

Just to add, it's important even if you do miscarry to see a doctor or midwife so you have it on record. I had a mc and then got an early scan the next time I became pregnant. Recurrent miscarriages mean you can get a referral so it's a good idea for the GP to have it on your notes.

Your pregnancy sounds just like mine! Fairly minimal first tri symptoms which had more or less gone by 10 weeks. No bump until much later. I'm now 20 weeks and all going fine. It is highly likely you are still pregnant. Assume that you are pregnant until heavy bleeding/cramping or a scan tells you otherwise.

Am I sensing some anxiety about going to the docs? The thing is, you'll need to at some point whatever happens. Even if you have a MMC or a 'normal' miscarriage at this stage you will probably need some medical help. Call your GP and ask how to be referred to your local midwives. You need to get booked in before you can have your 12 week scan, which will give you the answers you're looking for.

You need to see your doctor because you should have had a booking in appointment with your midwife around 8 weeks. If you are 9.5 weeks you wouldn't get a very strong positive pregnancy test as the HCG levels are so hight it's hard for the test to read it so don't panic if you get this (I did a pregnancy test at 10 weeks and it was almost negative) I had to google it to make sure it was normal (which it was) I'm now 14+5 weeks and know everything is fine with baby as I listen to her everyday. Good luck.

Thanks everyone for your responses.

Yes I am majorly anxious about visiting a doctor for various reasons.... I know this sounds ridiculous & that I need to at some point, but you will be pleased to hear I have an appointment booked for next week!

I did try a Clear Blue test yesterday & it still said 'Pregnant' but at only 3+ weeks Hmm which isn't possible.

I hadn't read the responses on here until now so when the test said 3+ I thought that must mean the baby had died at 3 weeks. However after reading these plus other internet searching, I realise/ hope this could be just because the pregnancy is too far along for the test to give an accurate result.

I think 3+ weeks is the maximum result a CB digital will give you. Well done on making that appointment :)

As others have said clear blue only go up to 3 weeks.

Beau5y · 11/10/2014 21:41

3+ weeks is the highest it goes up to on a clear blue test, it means how far from conception. I'm 7 and a half weeks pregnant and mine says 3+ too. Good luck and hope you have a healthy happy pregnancy xx
