Baby not engaged at 40 weeks - any experiences?

Hi all, just had a midwife app (am 39 + 5) and she says baby is still 'free' and not engaged at all. She didn't seem concerned but I'm wondering if anyone else has experience of this in terms of it leading to induction/being massively overdue? Midwife doesn't seem to think it will make any difference, but she did say it is unusual for a first baby to not be engaged by now. Any stories to share anyone?? Thanks Smile

My first was 8 days late, and didn't fully engage until I went into labour...I was checked in the morning and he was still wobbling around, then contractions started a few hours later. I presume he was engaged then Grin
Enjoy this last bit of time, and rember that dealing with a new baby is (usually!) less rubbish than being massively pregnant.

Oh! Labour was average if that reassures you!

Me too - didn't engage until I went into labour and FWIW I had a lovely labour. Good luck :) Oooh yes I was 9 days late!

I was posting about this last week. I'm 38 + 4 and still not engaged, apparently the only thing to watch is if your waters go before the head is engaged. If they do there's a risk of cord prolapse so you need to go straight in.

DS was born at 40+5 and didn't enagage unitl labour. I was at my midwife yesterday (38+6) and this baby isn't engaged so i expect this one will be the same.
