Had 1st bleed at 30 weeks, overnight stay in hospital, given steroid injections (2 over 24 hours), advised to rest and take it easy and was allowed home, 2nd bleed at 33 weeks so stuck in hospital now until at least 37 weeks (unless emergency c-sec). Never had an operation before so scared of having one that i'm going to be awake for it and where it's highly likely i'm going to haemorrage during the op and hope my baby is born healthy. Anyone have any possitive stories from experience as there are plenty of horror ones on the net (which doesn't help!) also scared of having a big bleed and being rushed for emergency c-sec although i'm in hospital so know i'm in the safest place to be for the little one and myself.

Hi op,

I'm nearly 2 weeks post emcs. I had a difficult pregnancy but not quite as serious as yours. I'd booked in for an elcs on a monday but they decided to do it there and then when I went in for my pre op assessment on the Friday. I was 39 weeks + though.

I had 2 transfusions after the procedure and then spent 8 hours on oxygen and not allowed to move but was up and about the next day as normal. I know this sounds really dramatic but I really didn't feel anything and recovery hasn't been as bad as I thought it was. I was of course worried for dd as they did it because they thought she was distressed. She was 3.1kg with an apgar score of 9. So no problem there and you're absolutely in the right place.

I was very scared too, but I had to just accept I was in the right place. The best advice I was given was that it's all over very quickly and it was.

I did feel mentally prepared for an emcs throughout my pregnancy. Good luck!

I think it would help if you coul: identify why youre scared of an operation. Is it that youre worried about pain? recovery? not being in control? If youre in hospital now then i really thibk you should try and talk to somebody aboyt all of this. Thanks

Hi op. I have pp too. Been reading up a lot and the risk to your baby have gone down loads because you have hit the 33 week mark. I forget the percentage but it's down to single figures.

Plus c sections are bread and butter ops, they will be good at it and very fast coz you are right under their noses.

Hi OP

I had pp which resulted in an emergency section at 34 weeks after a bleed at home. I'd had steroids after a small bleed a few days before which significantly helped my DS.

The section itself was fine and they didn't run into any problems. I just had an epidural so was awake, and had painkillers afterwards. I was up and about in a day or so, and DS was in an incubator overnight and then on the normal ward with me. He was tiny and needed a little extra warmth and help feeding, but no major problems. He's a bouncy two year old now so no lasting effects for either of us!

You're in the right place. As redexpat says, is there someone at the hospital you could talk to?

Best of luck.
