I'm looking for an unusual name for a boy, DP and I prefer a Celtic ring to it but have so far have been unable to find one we both like. We had one picked out but I said it so often out loud I went off it

Griffin or with y's Gryffyn

Gedders · 29/09/2006 09:13

My son is called Gerard, and we shorten it to Ged. It's an Irish name that you don't hear often.

queenofpuddings · 29/09/2006 09:31

oops just read post, Darcy is Celtic, Clement is not

TerrbileTwos · 29/09/2006 09:34

How about

Killian (German spelling)
Cilian (irish spelling)

This was the only name my (Austrian) partner and i could agree on but we gave it the German spelling just to make it different here in Scotland

If I'd had a boy he would have been Aidan. Not very unusual but I like it.

FoghornLeghorn · 29/09/2006 09:39

Finlay/Finley. This was our choice for a boy last time and is in 2nd place atm this time.

lucy5 · 29/09/2006 09:40

I might have Leo for this baby.

griffintribe · 29/09/2006 09:43

Reconsider your chosen one. We decided at the 20 week scan that our daughter would be a Lilith. Then about 6 weeks before she was born i got all worried about it and every time we discussed names i went in a right panic. When our dd was born we didn't even discuss it, she was just straight away a Lilith

mustrunmore · 29/09/2006 09:55

We had 55 unusual boys names... on our short list

SSSandy · 29/09/2006 09:57

Finnbar would be unusual, shortened to Finn. Wondering now how many "r's" and "n's" it has.

acnebride · 29/09/2006 09:59

Another vote for Malachi, I LOVE it.

NotSoUselessMum · 29/09/2006 09:59

I like Aidan, Fynn and Rhys.

Whew, have finally managed to catch up on my own post and I love some of the names suggested, especially Finn and Killian. I think I prefer the German spelling of it as it makes it easier for everyone if they can at least sound it out phonetically...just ask my daughter who hates her K sounding name spelt with a Ch LOL
