And that's my problem really all I want is some runny eggs and some pate! It's rubbish (as she quietly huffs over salad) any one else got any yummy food ideas that distracted them from oh so tasty forbidden foods!..

Sorry, contain listeria... It can cause listeriosis.

Snowmonkey77 · 09/10/2014 08:40

Snowmonkey77 · 09/10/2014 08:40

Proper restaursntr sushi is fine, as long as the fish was frozen properly. I mostly want the crappy supermarket version, though, that has been sitting in the 'chiller' getting warmer by the minute

Peppermintinfusion try the Ossau-Iraty from Waitrose. The milk is pasteurised so it's allowed. I feel very sad when I see all my favourites. The Morbier was teasing me the other day.

Initially I really wanted wine but that was just because I'd got used to having a glass or two a few nights a week. Now that's worn off. I'm going through a weird anti-meat phase at the moment.

True to form as per first pregnancy my sweet tooth has gone mad. Trying to balance all the chocs with some fruit.

dancestomyowntune · 09/10/2014 10:28

Prawns for me. I think they are fine in hot dishes when cooked thoroughly but I want prawn cocktail with lashings of marie rose sauce. And pate. And mould ripened cheese.... and rare steak.

TinyMonkey · 09/10/2014 10:45

Cured meats are ok as long as you stick them in a freezer for 24hrs first I think.

AnythingNotEverything · 09/10/2014 13:45

Sorry LittleBear. Hope you didn't find that patronising. It's a reasonably recent change so lots of people actually don't know, and are badly informed by friends and family.

Toxo is not nice.

LittleBearPad · 09/10/2014 15:05

No it isn't and if we were in France we'd all be tested for it at our booking appointments and if negative on a monthly basis subsequently. But the NHS takes the view that this isn't necessary largely because most people have had it.

JennyBlueWren · 09/10/2014 15:21

I never drank that much before being pregnant -we didn't drink at home and I only went out once a month or less. But I've started wanting a drink! Normally when out which makes sense but also at other times too.

JennyBlueWren · 09/10/2014 15:26

The advice on nuts has changed to say you should only avoid them if there's a history of allergy in the family. A colleague nearly knocked some out of my hand when she caught me eating this "banned" food.

I've not given up my soft-boiled eggs. Am glad I've now got an excuse for "overcooking" my steaks (I like them medium!). I wouldn't be eating anything I thought might give me listeria/salmonella even if I wasn't pregnant so don't see much reason to avoid meats and cheeses if from good sources -the source is important if you look at where there have been problems in the past. In fact listeria can be a problem in vegetables too!

CarmineRose1978 · 09/10/2014 15:41

Jenny, me too! I've never been very bothered about alcohol, but now if my DP gets a beer or a glass of wine, it smells so GOOD. I asked for just a sip of his red wine the other day and he basically had to snatch the glass off me before I downed it... One sip became glug glug glug! Yet normally I wouldn't have looked at it twice.

CockBollocks · 09/10/2014 15:44

I really wanted the cold meat and cheese on offer at a hotel the other day - parma ham and such.

Thought I had better avoid it.

ScummyWithGin · 09/10/2014 19:07

LittleBearPad in the UK and US (where I'm currently living), most people haven't had toxo. It's more like 20-30%. I unfortunately was one of the unlucky ones who got it for the 1st time early on in this pregnancy, despite having owned cats and eaten raw/rare meat for years. Cue 10 incredibly stressful weeks before the amnio and being on a high dose of antibiotics for the rest of the pregnancy. I don't want to scaremonger because it is very rare but it has meant that I'm being far more cautious about what I eat than I ever expected to be (even when dying for some oozy, delicious soft cheese!!).
I also agree with Anything, a lot of people have either been very misinformed or had not a clue what toxoplasmosis is when I've told them I have it.

My sweet tooth has gone crazy too!

AnythingNotEverything · 09/10/2014 19:10

Scummy I'm sorry you're going trough this. I had TORCH screening at 32 weeks to rule out toxo (amongst other things) and the weekend I had to wait for my results was like an eternity.

I hope your pregnancy goes smoothly from here and that you have a healthy baby in your arms soon enough to melt away all this worry.

ScummyWithGin · 09/10/2014 19:41

Thank you Anything! Glad your results were ok. Happily the amnio results came back negative so feeling much better now! Still being pretty cautious though.

LittleBearPad · 09/10/2014 20:30

Actually the NHS says they don't know how many people have had toxo in the UK. Most people's symptoms are such that they either think they have a general bug or don't notice. They don't tend to go to their GP and so don't get diagnosed. The risk likelihood also has to be considered

I'm desperate for pate too!!! I have the worst sickness and it's all I can think about!
