Hey, so i'm now 20 weeks and I recall at booking in appointment midwife said I would get a flu jab. Cant remember where or when though :S Do I need to sort this out with my GP?

When are you ladies having it?

Hi babyk. I had to book mine through my GP. I had mine last Saturday. My DH gets one with work though and he hasn't had his yet.

RawCoconutMacaroon · 07/10/2014 16:45

Probably through your GP - phone and ask. New supplies are in this week in my area, and pregnant women are a priority group (as the risk of flu is greater during pregnancy). You can have it now.

Pisghetti · 07/10/2014 16:49

I booked an appointment at the GP surgery after my next antenatal appt there so I only have to go once.

bradders85 · 07/10/2014 17:24

I had mine last night and booked through my GP.

skyra13 · 07/10/2014 19:27

My Gp was doing a walking center for people who needed the flu jab.

I got mine on the weekend.

See if your gp does anything like this our was done on last name A to k one weekend next weekend K to Z.

First time ive had a flu jab my arm killed for days :(

PeppermintInfusion · 07/10/2014 19:47

I was at the midwife yesterday (she is based in my surgery one day a week) she said I can get it at my next appt there as she can just send me straight through to the nurse after the appt

Dogsmom · 07/10/2014 21:45

Am 19 weeks and had mine yesterday at gp surgery.

pippinleaf · 07/10/2014 21:53

I'm having mine tomorrow at GP surgery. Does it make you ill? I've heard it can do Hmm

bakingmad83 · 07/10/2014 22:00

I had both the flu and whooping cough jabs today. The nurse said that apart from a sore arm and perhaps a slightly raised temperature/feeling a bit sniffly it was rare to get any other side effects.

Sorehead · 07/10/2014 22:26

I had my flu jab last week and had no side effects apart from a mildly sore arm (less painful than after whooping cough)

Like everyone else has said, it was arranged through my GP surgery and I saw the practice nurse.

happypotamus · 08/10/2014 08:41

I am having mine tomorrow at 36+4 weeks. I think you can have it at any time in the pregnancy, but they have only begun vaccinating people this week so I don't have much time to fit it in. I just rang the GP surgery and asked to be booked in. I usually get the flu jab every year at work and it doesn't make me ill just gives me a sore arm, some people are convinced it does though.

FoxSticks · 08/10/2014 08:52

I'm 40+4 and had mine on Monday. My arm was a little bit sore but nowhere near as bad as after the whooping cough one.

PeppermintInfusion · 08/10/2014 09:35

I've been offered it through work a few times and I've felt quite ill after it- a bit feverish and like I'm really coming down with something that never transpires, last time I had to work from home for a couple of days. I seem to have this reaction to most vaccines though, it wouldn't put me off getting it when I'm pregnant but I skipped it last year when I wasn't.

Passthebiscuitspls · 08/10/2014 09:39

My gp surgery contacted me to book me in for it, I had it a couple of weeks ago. It was fine, my arm was sore for a couple of days but that would be nothing in comparison to actually getting Flu!

clover83 · 12/10/2014 17:24

I asked my GP when I should have it when I was there with my toddler last week. She did it there and then - I'm 9 weeks. No ill effects except a sore arm.

Hi honey, although the flu jab is strongly recommended for all pregnant women, the decision is obviously down to you, though you're much more likely to develop complications from flu if you are pregnant (especially if you catch it later in pregnancy). According to the NHS site it is safe.

LBNM19 · 12/10/2014 22:13

It's up to you but because immune system is weaker the flu can have serious effects give you pneumonia etc i had mine at the weekend 38 + 4 xx

DanyStormborn · 12/10/2014 22:35

I had to book mine through the GP. In my surgery they are this Saturday or next Saturday depending on your last name (you go in alphabetical slots). It doesn't matter how pregnant you are but it is best to get it before flu season gets in full swing so September/October. I was impressed with my "appointment" as I was in and out the surgery in less than 2 minutes, no wait at all just asked to take off jumper checked details and why I was having flu jab (being pregnant) then injection and out :) glad I walked though as my arm went really dead for a couple of hours, I could hardly move it, not sure how I would have changed gear/steer if I had driven.

LittlePeasMummy1 · 13/10/2014 11:28

Hi honeydue, here is a patient information leaflet that details all of the scientific studies that have been done on flu vaccination in pregnancy, and includes information on why the jab is recommended

www.medicinesinpregnancy.org/Medicine--pregnancy/Flu-vaccine/

Hope this helps

caravela · 13/10/2014 13:24

I could either book mine through the GP, or the maternity unit at the local hospital was doing drop-in sessions (no appointment needed) for pregnant women.

Worth phoning because the GP clinics can get a bit of a backlog with lots of different groups having the flu jab now. Sometimes they do different priority groups at different times as well, so you can ask when their supplies are in and when it's being rolled out to pregnant women.

If you are having the whooping cough vaccination (recommended in pregnancy to protect the baby before it's old enough to be vaccinated itself), you can have both at the same time. I did this - was a bit worried whether it would make me feel awful, but didn't have any side effects from it, and you can ask to have the 2 jabs in different arms.

Try Boots. My local Boots do a walk in flu jab service. I was in and out in ten minutes.
