Fertility & Panic about estrogen

Hi,
I'm in my second trimester and having a panic.

I was told by my consultant to take estrogen supplements up until 8 weeks. I had an early scan that dated me 2 weeks later than I thought but it seemed believable because my cycles could be wonky! In the end, my dates were right and I had inadvertently taken estrogen until 10.5 weeks. My ovaries/eggs are dodgy but I didn't have any treatment to stop my natural production (as I understand happens in IVF). Really scared that if I'm having a boy I might have messed him up! Advice from anyone in the know/been through anything similar welcome! I'm not due to see a consultant again until 32 weeks and midwives don't seem to know much on this issue.

Hello, I took oestrogen for about the first 14 weeks as had a frozen embryo transfer. I know this is different to your scenario as my ovaries were inactive at the start and so initially this was my only source of oestrogen. However, I did forget to take a couple of my oestrogen tablets and panicked, but was told by the fertility nurse that the placenta starts to produce oestrogen quite quickly (by about 8 weeks i think) and when this is established, it is in such large amounts that any added in supplement is kind of insignificant.

As well as this, there is no convincing evidence of any harm caused by continuing to take oral contraceptives (many of which contain oestrogens) whilst pregnant. Below is a patient information leaflet about this. Hope it is helpful

Glad you like it. I write the leaflets for my job. They are based upon leaflets that we produce for health care professionals. Thanks for the lovely feedback :)

Wow, that's brilliant. I have already directed 6 other pregnant ladies to it. I might suggest my GP directs people to it, as I had asked her and confessed to not really knowing anything about it! Well done. Great resource :-)
