Hello
I'm only 24 weeks and I'm having vaginal pains coming from cervix area and side pains nothing major though they are bare able although I feel the baby sitting on my bladder which makes me need a wee despite not needing one! I lost this today and was wondering if it's a cause for concern? I have uni in 3 hours which is an hour train ride so don't know whether to set off or not considering I have no real major pains just a little concerned

At 24 weeks I would give your midwife a call before you decide to go anywhere. How big is it? It's difficult to gauge size from the pic.

purplemurple1 · 07/10/2014 09:57

I'd call your midwife, I'm 25 weeks and had a very light bleed with no pains last night and havebeen kept in overnight for oobservations, they have said it was absolutely worth coming in.

I think you should call your midwife and tell her. I don't have anything to compare the pic to (only pregnant with DC1) so don't know if it's a cause for concern (the other things - pains - in your post wouldn't worry me so much on their own) but I think you should ask a professional.

OP I'd be cautious and go straight to hospital. I know the plug can repair itself but both times I lost mine I went into premature labour the same day.

Honestly not wanting to scare you but if I was you I'd get it checked they may want to give you steroid injections or a stitch to be on the safe side Flowers

mumxof3x · 07/10/2014 10:12

Yes that is part of your plug, it can regenerate and I was loosing mine with ds2&3 from early on, but that is me and you maybe different to me, so I would definately get checked out. Its much better just to be carefull. X

youmakemydreams · 07/10/2014 10:15

If you're worried get it checked out. What I will say though is my friend loses mucus like that from about halfway through pregnancy until the end and she has five kids.
But if you are ever concerned always always get checked out.

Thanks everyone
I called 111 as my midwife is not picking up! And they said that it's probably just discharge although I disagree. They told me not to come in unless I get pains fluid/blood leakage

Do you not have a number for the maternity unit or perhaps even the labour ward?

Patilla · 07/10/2014 12:37

Do you have a triage dept for your maternity ward?

jamtoast12 · 07/10/2014 12:38

I'd just turn up at the hospital. They won't be able to turn you away. In fact your gp can give you an internal to check cervix is closed as I had similar.

Ange77 · 07/10/2014 13:02

Zia I would really recommend ringing your hospital direct if you cant get through to your midwife, or like others have said take your notes and turn up. Always better to be safe than sorry. Would be a good idea to get checked out x

zia11 · 07/10/2014 13:30

I do have the number but I'm in southampton (i live in Poole but travel here for uni) haven't got my notes on me either. If I phone up my maternity unit it would mean me getting an hour and half journey home then a 20 min walk to the maternity. Will they recommend I do that or will they give me Southampton's number? I phoned 111 opposed to my maternity because I thought they would automatically book me in with someone at southampton :/

I'd just go the nearest walk in or a&e. You only need to confirm cervix is closed. It doesn't have to be a midwife to do that.

Faacksake · 07/10/2014 16:25

111's hit and miss. I really would get checked out op even if it's nothing better to be checked and not need to be then not checked and need seeing.

babykonitsway · 07/10/2014 16:36

that is much more than discharge. can you call your gp they will have numbers for your midwife clinic?
