High blood pressure

Hi, I'm 37 weeks pregnant and at the last 2 midwife appointments my blood pressure has been high, my mum had preeclampsia with 2 of her pregnancies and with me she had a fit and delivered at 32 weeks! So far I have been really healthy but I have started to have headaches. Is anyone else suffering from high blood pressure without all of the other preeclampsia symptoms? Do you think I am likely to be induced if my blood pressure has climbed again at my next appointment?
Thank you

Hi, sorry to hear this I know how daunting it is. I had the same thing with my DS after a pretty much text book pregnancy till virtually week 40. I was admitted to hospital 4 days before DS was born. They tried to induce me but after many hours I hadn't gone past 3cm dilated so opted for a C-sec.

Now pregnant with no. 2 and keeping a close eye on my BP as worried in-case it will reoccur.

Hopefully yours will have settled down by the time of your next check up.

Yep, I had severe PE at 31 weeks first time round. No symptoms except feeling rough for a few weeks beforehand. My bp shot up and I was already admitted before headaches/blurred vision occurred. EMCS a couple of days later. I guess just keep going back to your mw if you're worried and be super vigilant for any other Classic symptoms. I'm 39 weeks with no.2 and bp has started to creep up again recently so I'm being monitored every other day. Your family history should mean they keep a closer eye on you too. Good luck x

Meant to say that this time round it is mainly high bp rather than other PE symptoms. Have had a bit of blurred vision when it's been really high. My bp seems to fluctuate massively between high and normal so it makes it hard to treat. You might be put on labetalol if it continues to rise, I am on it now with a view to getting to my due date before thinking of induction or another section. Assuming that I don't go into labour on my own before then.

Yep. For the last two weeks of my twin pregnancy I was in every other day for checking. I ended up on labetalol and they kept upping the dose and it didn't really have much effect so they added in something else. I had a +1 of protein one time but I was dehydrated and hadn't eaten, apart from that it was just the BP. I was admitted once, but discharged the next morning and I went to full term (for twins) before I had a planned section due to their positions.

My BP didn't come down after I had them and I ended up spending 6 nights there before I self-discharged. Happy memories!!

Hi, had exactly the same also around 36/37 weeks. Normal and then suddenly a big spike which got me admitted overnight at 37 weeks. I've been monitored twice weekly (currently nearly 40 weeks) and whilst it continues to fluctuate between acceptable and borderline, I have had no protein, headaches etc. I have two midwife home visits a week though and have been reviewed in antenatal clinic every couple of weeks. They do a preeclampsia blood test each time to check my liver functions too.
It might be they just monitor you like that? They think mine is just pregnancy hypertension at the moment! X

I had pregnancy hypertension with my last pregnancy and was put on blood pressure tablets. My son was born at 38 weeks naturally. The day I went in to get induced they found I was already in labour! They discovered that my placenta had stopped working prob because of my high blood pressure so they were going to induce. My son ended up being born at 6 pounds 10 oz but was originally predicted to be a 9 pound plus baby!

I had severe PE, without a single symptom. I nearly died, as did DS. It was only discovered at a routine midwife check, I would not have known otherwise.

OP, if you're having headaches, get checked out just now, don't wait till tomorrow morning or Monday - phone labour ward just now. PE can develop rapidly.
