Early Pregnancy Cramping - Is this Normal?

Am 5 weeks today and have had really bad cramps this Monday gone and from late afternoon today. They come and go and seem to be moving round my stomach and back. Also feel crampy in both thighs.

It's pretty bad, wouldn't say severe but very uncomfortable. No blood (touch wood) apart from a tiny bit of dark brown spotting.

I had an early mc at 5 weeks in July and had zero cramps before, during or after so am actually hoping this is a good sign.

All being well this will be my second. I remember a few twinges with DS in the early stages but nothing like this. Paracetamol and a hot bath have made them tolerable but still very much there.

Has anyone else had similar and gone on to have a healthy pregnancy? Should I be worried?

The first sign I had that I was pregnant, both times, was period type pains with no period. So fingers crossed it's the same for you.

That's reassuring Pico thank you Smile

Yeah i had this too. Bad enough to use a hot water bottle kind of thing. Around the time my period was due with both pregnancies actually so made me panic! I think with my first i seem to remember it lasting a few weeks too.

I have one of those microwavable wheat bags clamped to me right now ithought! Boo to it lasting a few weeks. Was it constant or on and off?

Oh bless you! I love those things Grin

On and off... definitely. Sometimes i wouldn't get it for a few days then get it for an afternoon or evening. I didn't get it so much this time but loads with my ds. I had to take my pingu hot water bottle to work with me once. Shame on.

You have a hormone called Relaxin moving around in your blood relaxing your uterus muscles and allowing the uterus to expand for the growing foetus. Relaxin is indiscriminate and relaxes tendons and ligaments too so your bowels are prone to constipation, tendons and ligaments are easily pulled (take care lifting and twisting) and your feet spread. It's all normal. The first sign I was pregnant was terrible uterine cramping - amazing that something so small can cause so much mischief. This sentiment lasts a long time after the birth.......

ithought Grin at taking pingu into work! Has settled down now so looks like it's going to be on and off. Boo.

thatsn0t ah of course, that's what causes pelvic pain as well isn't it? Damn you, relaxin!

sunbathing it is very reassuring that we have the same symptoms at the same time. Hope the next 8 months goes smoothly for both of us! Smile
