Anyone got any experience of these?I had a scan a week and a half ago and a small clot was found (about the size of a grape) this was before my booking appointment so was in EPU,two days later I had booking appointment so another scan and they couldn't even see the clot on it so were pretty positive saying that it had either gone or got significantly smaller. Then on Tuesday I was in a car accident, and as there were no obvious injuries and I had another scan booked in today as a follow up with EPU I was advised to wait and see today. Today the clot (whether it is the original one,or a new one I'm not sure) is three times the size of the original measurement. Nobody would tell me what exactly it meant other than that it could result in the loss of the pregnancy or gave me any advice about what if anything I should be doing.I'm really worried and really don't know what to do,I'm booked in for another scan in two weeks time to check on it.Do I carry on as normal until then?
I just feel really worried and uninformed.Anyone any experience of this/knowledge of it?

I had one of these. It emerged early on (pre 12 week scan but can't remember when exactly) as rusty brown blood and a few small clots. It's basically a blood clot between the layers of the membrane around the placenta.

I don't have any statistics or anything, but my MW said they're quite common. The only thing she advised me to do was be wary of lifting anything heavy (though this is standard advice in first trimester anyway) and to avoid having penetrative sex until the clot had been reabsorbed or dissolved and worked its way out.

Sorry it's not very useful, but wanted you to know you aren't alone! Thanks

I had one of these in my last pregnancy. Was advised no sex till re absorbed or bled out.
Had a little bit of bleeding on and off, was gone by 13 weeks so think most of it re absorbed.

I had one that caused bleeding at 16 weeks. It showed up on the scan then and kept bleeding for a few days afterwards. No further issues or clots on the 20 weeks scan, now 24 weeks. Could be different if it's early days, but that and the accident sound like the perfect reason to take things very easy indeed. Hope you are ok.

Thanks for replies,I have literally had no advice at all on what to do and then when I googled everyone seemed to have been put on bed rest, good to know there are some more moderate things I can do/not do !

Yep, sch 'survivor'. I had one or two areas of bleeding when I was scanned early on. Started off as spotting but I had 6 or 7 episodes of bright red flooding with huge clots. Was very scary! I was terrified to leave the house incase it happened while I was out.
Like you, I was never given any real advice and I only took things easy after googling it. Infact, it was only diagnosed because I told the sonographer shat I'd found on google!
Aaanyhoo, I'm now 29 weeks and haven't had a bleed since 20 ish weeks(touch wood!) and at a growth scan the other day(due to diabetes) they couldn't see any bleeds.
So, there is light at the end of the tunnel and bleeding doesn't always mean the worst.
But, I found that putting my feet up in bed, lying on my side, after a bleed did help.
Good luck op x

The first I knew of this was when I had a weird feeling and went to the bathroom and started bleeding heavily. I assumed I was miscarrying, this was just 8 weeks after a previous miscarriage and I had only found out I was pregnant the week before.
Off I went to EPU devastated and assuming it was all over, I had a scan and there he was, heart beating away. He's asleep now 4 years later, sucking his thumb.
So while it may lead to miscarriage it also might just come away and you could be fine. So even if you bleed, don't lose hope straight away.
