Managing morning sickness during commute

I'm currently 6/7 weeks pregnant (midwife says 7, I think 6!) and one thing I'm really struggling with is dealing with my morning sickness on my way to work.

I'm lucky in that my morning commute is fairly short (one bus, twenty minute journey at the most). I'm finding though that I either want to puke on the bus, or that when I get off I'm walking up to work trying not to be sick in a bin!

I've tried varying my breakfast time (eating before I leave the house, waiting til I get to work etc). Yesterday I thought that chewing gum might help (it really didn't, I don't recommend that one!).

Does anyone have any tips for learning to deal with this? I feel really paranoid about walking through town retching Blush

TheScenicRoute I've been sick a few times, nothing major, but because it's mostly on a morning it's just empty stomach bile (sorry if that's tmi!). Except the other morning when my toast made a bid for freedom...

I just keep counting down days and hoping it'll get better soon, and that I won't be like someone in my family who had it all the way through!

Try not to worry too much avocado. I had it all the way through, and although it wasn't fun, (a) you get better at managing it and (b) when the exhaustion lifts (around 16 weeks for me) it gets much easier to deal with even if the nausea itself doesn't lift much.

If I'm ever pregnant again I'll also be much more focused in trying to get some drugs to help. I was prescribed one which stopped me actually throwing up but made me feel worse, so I just took it for a couple of big client meetings. However, my sister has been put on vitamin b6 and an antihistamine for nausea and is finding a big improvement. There is a website called Pregnancy Sickness Support with lots more details and research on the options that is worth looking at.

I really struggled when pg with my dd. I used to keep a carrier bag with me all the way to work just in case.
With my ds I used travel bands and sherbert lemon sweets and t worked a treat xx

I don't have dc so I don't have any experience of this but Flowers for you, it sounds very unpleasant! I only came to on to say that a relative found murray mints good in this situation.

Don't drink water until you get to work, I know it's not very healthy but I found water just came straight back up for me. Also sit at the front so you can see the road ahead, that helps me in the car and on buses.

I feel your pain! My commute is nearly 1 1/2 hours each way. In the end I was prescribed anti-sickness meds as I was too ill to travel, but what really helped me were:
Eating the MOMENT I woke (I would wake up early to be sick)- pack of dry crackers next to bed
No liquid until I got to work, then just ginger or lemon
Someone else on MN recommended hard boiled sweets and all journey I sucked on sherbet lemons and Werthers and it really helped
Carrier bags just in case
Once I got to work ate green apples and breadsticks- sainsburys do mini ones
I didn't find the travel bands any use.
Good luck! I felt so fed up at your stage but hopefully it will pass soon!

I would spew most mornings when I got to work. It was the fresh air after the bus that did it. Hope it passes soon!

I was astounded when work claimed to have not guessed when I announced at 13 weeks.

Sip something really really cold that doesn't turn your stomach. Original lucozade did the trick for me, but that makes others vom so it's a bit of trial and error.
Unfortunately nothing really stopped me from throwing up on my commute when it was really bad. I eventually found that just trying to relax about it helped a lot. If I was sick, then so be it! I always kept a stash of Lidl large freezer bags on me to throw up in. They don't leak at all and are nice and strong :D
So sorry you are feeling crap, commuting with morning sickness really is awful!

Oh and when I say sips I mean TINY sips. I found the more liquid I had in the morning the more sick I was! Limit your liquid intake until the sickness has passed!
