Jobs when pregnant?

So at the end of this month I will not have a job :( It was a part time summer job but with the promise of we might be kept on they have extended contract to the end of the month but that is it.

I will then be 17 weeks Pregnant how likely is it i will find another job being this far gone?
Or would I be better of going to the job centre and claiming i haven't claimed jobseekers since i was 17 but i have a feeling not many people will be willing to give me a job at 17 weeks, I have to have bloods check and other things on a regular basis so i would have to tell my new place of work as i'd need the time off.

My partner is a full time teacher but can not live of his wage alone, just looking for some advice on what you lady's would do?

I got a new job at 6months pregnant. I was a bit fat too, so I went and bought interview clothes that made me look fat rather than pregnant and was careful about the way I stood, again to try and look more fat than pregnant.

I then told new boss on the first day that I was pregnant and they were really nice about it.

I went for a 6 month contact at the same stage as you. Told them week I joined. They were really nice and fine about tests etc. good luck.

Perhaps see if you can register with an agency to do some temp work until you feel ready to start mat leave you'll be able to control when and how many hours you work depending on how you feel and any appointments you've got. You'll still be able to claim MA from the government when you have the baby.

Definitely apply and also see what benefits you can claim. Jobs can give time off for medical appointments. For my blood tests I go after work, just getting in before clinic closes which helps.

When I was pregnant with DS1 I had a temp contract and it was not renewed. Obviously they didn't say it was because I was pregnant.

I didn't manage to find work at all while I was pregnant and ended up being a SAHM.

Sorry to depress you!

skyra13 · 02/10/2014 17:00

It's ok Sahkoora i think this is why I'm not being kept on to but they obvs Havant said that, my job was a 0 hour contract and tbh they kinda suck and alot I see now are 0 hours with no benefits!

I would go with Bondy83's suggestion and try to get something through an agency, with as long a contract as you think you can manage so you don't end up having to look again further down the line. It might be best not to mention that you're pregnant as it puts employers off, presumably because they're worried you'll need time off for appointments or will be 'fragile'. If possible try to find a job in a non-profit or a university rather than something like retail as they are often a bit better on the work-life balance and will probably be more understanding if you need some time off.

I've got about another month left of work in me, but I gave up trying to get new contracts. I was quite open about being pregnant when speaking to potential clients and you could just feel the awkwardness radiating.
