Gestational diabetes = high risk?

Hi I was just wondering if anyone had experience of getting gestational diabetes and if that made you high risk? I have the GTT next week and am really hoping to give birth at the midwife-led centre or at home but anxious to know whether that would be ruled out if the test results came back not in my favour?

In my birth centre you were deemed high risk if you had GD & therefore not allowed to use the centre.
I declined the test & got signed back to midwife led care. (No signs whatsoever of having GD just apparently carrying a big baby)

Depends how you manage it. If it's diet controlled you will be fine. You want to avoid injections, as that may cause them to limit your birth pla e choices. Ultimately you can ask for what you want though x

I was told I had. Gd but was kept under controlled by my diet so was never an issue for the birth plan x

I have a diagnosis of GD and although my blood sugar control is all in target and diet controlled only, I still have to see consultants, have extra monitoring and am deemed 'high risk'. All scans normal, no big baby, normal fluid, normal blood pressure - so no 'risk markers' but my consultant will simply not move from her position that GD = induction at 40 wks or earlier. We have talked and talked and I do understand her reasoning (ie that the studies are so limited she simply cannot allow herself to say 'you'll be fine') she does acknowledge that it is my choice and that I can decline induction.

I will not be able to use MLU and have been advised to have hospital birth even if I opt for spontaneous labour. Ultimately I feel a bit like I've been popped on a conveyor belt and will just stay on it until birth! It is very difficult to decline advice offered by docs when pregnant especially, as of course the suggestion of added risk is so emotive.

Anyway - after my big long waffle - it may well be that you don't have it, so moot point! Let us know how you get on!

I have just been diagnosed and was already on a consultant led delivery, so not much has changed, I was told that diet led would mean an induction at 39 weeks and medication led would be induction at 38 weeks - No arguments!!

Its been an adjustment. I am scared that I am considered high risk, but that means that I am well looked after I hope! :) Good Luck for the test,. and don't panic like I did when you get the result - It was not as bad as I thought!! :)
