Hospital bag... Will I need the following?

I think I'm virtually there with the packing (due in 4 weeks) BUT!

For the baby will I need...
A blanket?
Muslins?
Bibs?
A very warm outdoor outfit (like a pramsuit) for the car journey home or will a (thick?) cardigan and a blanket do? (Bearing in mind it will be late oct/early nov)

Also I'm really hot at the moment (obviously, being pregnant!) but normally I easily feel the cold. Is it really worth taking a dressing gown? I couldn't bear wearing one now but will my temperature return to normal after giving birth??

Also, mother care recommend taking 2 opening front pyjama sets to the hosp. I only have one like this. The rest are just tshirts. Will I really need 2 sets of pyjamas? (I have a cheap nighty for the actual labour).

I would add:

  • lipsalve (gas and air really dries you out)
  • lansinoh: my nipples really cracked badly surprisingly fast. If I had my time again I would obsessively moisturise my nipples (I mean at least after every feed and generally whenever you think of it)! Prevention is so much better than cure on that one.
  • you won't need breast pads really, but do take loads of maternity pads (I found the big thick Kotex maxi pads good: I would take at least 20 in with you and have at least the same number again at home).

Other than that I spent most of my time in a hospital gown and hardly used any stuff, but I was still glad to have it with me just in case!

Thank you so much for the above advice! I've re-jigged the bag(s!) and we're all ready!

Come on baby!!!

Can I recommend getting washable breast pads, rather than the disposable ones? They're soooo much better! Little Lamb bamboo ones are great. Also second the lip balm.

I really need to think about packing a bag too. Second baby so I'm feeling a bit more 'relaxed' about the whole thing.

My hospital was roasting and luckily I had packed the recommended 2 front opening nightshirts. I got sweaty after one day and night so was glad I had a change. PJs would have been useless to me post c section, I didn't want anything over my stitches.

Also you may need breast pads. I had an induction and was leaking colostrum every time they turned the drip up (weird) and was leaky afterwards so you never know! Pack a few just in case Smile good luck with everything!
