To induce or not to induce? Big baby.

I went to speak to a dr today about my big baby, I was expecting her to offer me another growth scan and to talk about safely birthing a big baby but she suggested an induction at 37 week (which is at the end of this weekShock)

My first dc was around 10 pounds and born at close to 42 weeks so inducing at 37 weeks would be 5 weeks "early" if this baby is destined to be born at the same gestation as dc1.

My automatic response was to decline an induction and ask for another growth scan to specifically look at the proportions of this baby, dc1 was long, so although a high weight not hugely wide/chubby, I agreed that if the scan shows the baby is especially wide I'll have an induction.

Does this sound reasonable? Has anyone got any advice/experience about inductions for a big baby?

What was DC1's birth like? I guess my first instinct is to say that if you were capable of birthing a 10 pound baby last time, you'll be able to do it again. But if you had significant complications/intervention as a result of his size I can understand better the rationale for potential early induction.

I think your plan sounds reasonable. To me an induction is more likely to lead to interventions (assisted delivery or section) and unless a good reason I would decline induction. Growth scans are not 100% accurate and 37 weeks is only just term. Good luck x

My first birth was pretty easy, no interventions and a very short pushing stage, if I could predict a similar birth that would be my preference.

I'd avoid induction too if you can, it wasn't a pleasant experience for me by any stretch (haha -pun?!) of the imagination.
If your body has done it before it can do it again :) you did the right thing. Get all the information you can to make a decision that's right for you. Doctors are in favour of controlling and intervening because that's what they've learnt. But that doesn't mean it's right for you.
