Hideous toothache but what can I take at 5 weeks?

I have a recurring problem with an infection around the gum by my wisdom tooth, which has just flared up something chronic (hence why unable to sleep at 3am despite being shattered!). Am going to see the dentist tomorrow but at just 5 weeks, what can/should I take? I really don't think I can just tough it out, although feel that I should be to avoid any risk. Isn't taking anything in 1st trimester meant to be bad? Gah!! Pass me the wine and the nurofen!

Have you got any garlic? A bit of garlic put on the effected area soothes the pain. It tastes disgusting and makes your mouth water but it does get rid of the pain.

As far as I know, paracetamol is fine.

I needed root canal at 8 weeks and remember it well, poor you Sad

Cloves helped too- they have a numbing property. I'm not sure if they're'safe' but I used them and my baby was born last week with no problems!

Isn't neurogenic ibuprofen? You shouldn't be taking that. Paracetamol only as far as I'm aware!

Just realised you might have been sarcastic now that I've noticed wine.. Grin sorry too early for my head to make sense!!

I know how u feel Thanks
Toothache is horrendous at any time but worse during pregnancy! I'm in my 3rd trimester now and have badly suffered.
The advice I was given was paracetamol is the only to take during 1st & 3rd trimester but ask your dentist or doctor if it would be safe to take amoxicillin for the infection.
It worked like magic on mine (touch wood Confused)
Hope u get sorted!

Thanks everyone, am off to the dentist today so hopefully she will have some advice. It's lucky I'm pregnant already, as some of the more natural remedies would have OH running for the hills.
And sorry Toavoid, I should have made my sarcasm more obvious, but thanks for the concern anyway Smile.

I would phone your GP for advice. When I put my back out my GP cleared me to have cocodamol, but I think that was second trimester.
